Honestly, I used to feel the same way, and I’m sure the Dems would try to use Vance’s own pre-2017 words against the campaign. But, you know, counterintuitively that’s what might make Vance the best pick of this list.
Polls have indicated that there’s a cohort of voters out there that the media has dubbed “double haters,” folks who dislike both Trump and Biden. What better way to peel off some of that group than have a guy on the ticket who can say, “Yes, I too was initially put off by some aspects of his style and rhetoric, but you know what? That was before he was in office. Once he had the top job, he did a damned good job for the American people. I saw that, so I changed my mind about him. This election isn’t about personality. It’s about doing the right thing and picking the best candidate for the American people. And that’s Trump.”
Another aspect at play is the fact that Vance is in that white midwest, rust-belt demographic that will be important in winning the swing states.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Vance’s former work in venture capital in San Francisco resulted connections to the Silicon Valley donor class. After meeting with Don Jr a while back, Vance has apparently been leveraging those ties to broker tens of millions of dollars in tech fundraising for the campaign. Remember, Trump is a business guy and fundraising prowess is going to count for something.
For these reasons, my gut feeling is that, at this point, Vance is the frontrunner as the VP pick.
Suspect he will serve in some top-level capacity.
He may choose otherwise, of course, but then almost certainly he has downloaded much of his knowledge and will remain available as a consultant.

Agreed. He’s very smart. Yes, he’s black - which *isn’t* the reason to pick him. The right reason is that he’s sharp and understands the problems, while at the same time, yes, he’ll be a difficult man for the media to handle (can’t call him ‘racist’) and will bring in more black votes.
I like Ben too - but I don’t think he’s enough of a bulldog for what needs to be done, he’s too nice.

Agreed. But presuming Trump to be controlled opp, a Cheney-style intel operator may be more in order—and the three non-black males all fit that bill.
I agree, and I love the guy, but he isn't candidate material. He's not quick and articulate enough, and he hasn't got it in him to be tough as nails. That's not a bad trait in a person, but it's not helpful in a presidential candidate. We need a sharp, quick-witted, articulate fighter.

I’m all for Carson. He ripped Obama during that breakfast speech right in Obama’s face. So he does have strength and is not afraid.
He has always been loyal to Trump. I remember during the introduction at the debate he couldn’t hear his name called... So he waited behind stage. They just skipped him and called the next few guys and they just walked by him. It looked like a total slap in the face of the black candidate. Then Trump came up to him and patted his back and chatted with Ben until it got straightened out and they both came out last. Trump got a lot of respect from me after that. And I think Ben has been loyal ever since.
You don’t need to yell and shout down your opponent when you are right.
Let’s just hope that Trump can find a patriot to serve as veep who is someone who scares Deep State at least as much as Trump does.

Exactly. It has to be someone with incredible determination and moxy and does not shy away from political battles, because that’s what the Deep State has in store for them.
We need someone who will relentlessly fight for results instead of just slinging rhetoric like most of the GOP does.
You can knock two off the list right away. They both live in Florida. Trump should know this.
Having Judas Pense back would be preferable to mcStains protégé, Marco Rubio.
Number 1 vetting criteria Trump should use to pick a VP: “is the Deep State as afraid or more of this person as president than they are of me?” His VP pick is his life insurance policy. Too many people on this list fail and the Deep State would love to have them ascend to the Presidency if something happened to Trump.
J D Vance is the best on this list to create a 12 MAGA reign.
But, I would pick Glenn Youngkin to have a chance of taking Virginia. If Trump takes Virginia, he wins the Electoral College.

Governors and senators have historically underperformed as cabinet secretaries. Tommy Thompson, Rick Perry, etc., fizzled instead of sizzled.
The Constitution says that electors of a state where the candidates are from can NOT vote for the Prez & VPrez of that state as a bundle. They can vote for the Prez but not the VPrez or the VPrez but not the Prez. Because of the quasi-constitutional way** we now do the presidential elections we mentally conflate Prez & VPrez into one vote i.e. one office. They are two offices and the electors vote for them separately. For example if Trump runs using his Florida address and a Florida based VP is his running mate. The Florida electors could vote for Trump but not his Florida based VP or they could vote for the VP but not Trump. Trump can get around it by using his New York address. I even think he has New Jersy property.
If a Fla Veep is his choice, I hope he has war gamed it out, so he meets the residency requirements of whichever state he chooses for residency. If he doesn’t treat it seriously the Rats will discover a love of the Constitution and pounce to deny or diminish his electoral vote count for him (Number 1 target!) or his VP. They’ll pounce anyway so it must be ironclad! He must be prepared! This is not something to be flippant about.
** The Founding Fathers never intended a popular vote for president. The Prez\VPrez would be selected indirectly by the state legislators through the legislature appointed electors. After watching years of extravaganza fantasmogorcal whoop & holler 3 ring circus presidential all-entertainment-all-the-time more-money-spent-then-the-budget-of-a-small-country presidential elections. It’s clear the Founding Fathers were right and the mess we call doing presidential elections is wrong.
