San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano is reportedly facing a lifetime ban from baseball for violating MLB's gambling policy, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan and Jared Diamond and Lindsey Adler of the Wall Street Journal.
Per the WSJ's report, "Marcano, 24 years old, has been accused of betting on games involving the Pittsburgh Pirates last season while he was on the injured list for that team."
Four other players are also reportedly facing punishments for betting on games at the minor league level, according to Diamond and Adler.

You’d think this guy would recognize the name “Pete Rose”.
I am of the suspicion that gambling by professional athletes is more than likely rampant and also more than likely an open secret......nobody wants to kill the geese that are laying golden eggs.
I mean look at the nfl......only time the league drug tests is during the season.
I hope they give him the lifetime ban. That being said, an active player or coach can have more influence on the outcome of a game than a player on IR.
Betting on sports heads people down a bad road in general, but betting on minor league baseball games requires a special level of stupid.
No Ohtani?
EXTORTION
I've already noticed the difference in sports. It's becoming more obvious nowadays. Too many "funny" outcomes.
oooooops wrong thread
Gambling will be this generations PED.
And sporting events on tv are inundated with gambling commercials.
It’s not much of a leap to see that influence leaking over to the athletes themselves.
Is Tucupita Marcano Mexican Spanish for Peter Rose?
I remember they went after Willie Mays back in the 80s because he got a job promoting a casino.
It's not worth following the NFL unless you're a gambler or into fantasy football.
These days I just go and watch the highlights.
The article says another Angel was betting with Ohtani’s interpreter’s bookie. I don’t believe Ohtani is clean. I do think he is protected and untouchable.
Funny that MLB is upset about betting within the sport while actively promoting gambling on the sport. They have an official gambling partner, for God’s sake, and the televised games are riddled with betting information and odds of who will win, who will get on base, etc.
What is wrong with players betting on sports? If they slack off, the coach and other players have doubts about them, and they are blackballed out of the league. Why get offical MLB involved? Have a trial and publish the results... Oh wait, it is not against the law.
That is the irony of it all. Allowed by the government as a revenue generator, sports and gambling have both a symbiotic and parasitic relationship at the same time.
