Like Howard Roark and Henry Rearden, Donald Trump is a flawed but epically heroic figure.
Like many young people decades ago, I was exposed to the works of Ayn Rand, the famous novelist who escaped Bolshevik Russia in 1925 after experiencing the oppressiveness and dangers of collectivism. In high school, our class was assigned to read The Fountainhead, Rand’s seminal novel about architect Howard Roark. Roark is a talented, fiercely independent architect who is constantly held back by both mediocre, weak individuals such as career-climber architect Peter Keating and by powerful institutions represented by media mogul Ellsworth Toohey.
Roark is brilliant and refuses to go along to get along, taking slings and arrows from all sides and never backs down from a fight. This book, read at an impressionable age, changed my political views and sent me on a course toward responsible conservatism. (Sadly, it is doubtful that The Fountainhead is ever assigned reading in today’s woke education indoctrination).
My first reaction after listening to Donald Trump’s press conference the day after his sham “conviction” in New York, was that he reminded me of protagonists in Rand’s most famous novels, both Howard Roark in The Fountainhead and Henry Rearden in her later novel, Atlas Shrugged. Both protagonists were enemies of the collective, forces that were always trying to tear down greatness and level humanity into bland mediocrity. Both characters fought tirelessly even when being crushed by the system. Both were flawed but epically heroic figures.
I have been “reluctant Trumper” for many years. His personal flaws bother me as do his deficiencies in executive administration and personnel decisions. However, his absolute, unwavering resolve in fighting back against the corrupt New York and Federal legal system is inspiring. Additionally, for years he has been fighting back against institutions aligned against him...

Recruiting the 10's of millions of illegal invaders as the fighting force, offering instant "citizenship" in return.
In other words, importing our sworn enemies to overthrow this nation.
However, Ayn Rand villains are real and Trump is fighting them.
*I started out in 2015 not liking Trump. I thought he was “mean”. BUT the more I listened to him, the more I paid attention to his words and actions,*
Same with Rush.
*I’d love to see good society go Galt!*
The slackers will always be around and cannot be ignored. They won’t away and they’ll cause trouble. Think George Floyd and the trouble he caused before being ‘dealt with’.
A waste of human skin How much government assistance did he get and what good did it do? Public schooling is free and how are the students doing?
You say:
“I believe the mainstream press usually lies.”
But you state this like it’s an indisputable fact:
“Trump’s personal flaws include adultery,”
I don’t think the accusations of adultery are any more credible than every other false accusation against him.
Care to provide some examples?
His statements regarding “Operation Warp Speed”. Not so much a lie more as ill-considered incorrect ego driven cheerleading. I’ve noticed he’s stop claiming it’s the greatest thing he’s ever done. I think he may have finally accepted that he was scammed on his COVID responses.
I don’t think Trump’s statements on Operation Warp Speed qualify as lies. He was stating what he thought, and likely sincerely believed. That’s an opinion, not a lie.
"It's not a lie, if you believe it."
And while that was a joke in the show, it is actually correct. If you honestly believe something that isn't true, you aren't lying when you say it. It can only be a lie if you KNOW it is not true (an intentionally false statement). Otherwise, it is ignornace or naivete.
I think i said that.
However, if you allow it to stand after you have gotten the facts. It becomes a lie.
You’re right. Trump is the only man since Jesus Christ who’s never lied.
Now, if he said they were "safe and effective", you are correct, and he should acknowledge his ignorance/error/gullibility. But again, that is still a far cry from deliberately and intentionally lying, which he did not do.
Big Mike’s Wife reminds me of Toohey. A whole lot of talking without saying anything.
OK, troll. Nice example. I see that you don't actually have any examples. You just spew b.s., you just say "Trump lies", but you don't actually have anything to support that, and you're certainly not willing to engage in any actual debate about it. Instead, you choose to make a snarky remark.
Trump is me and I am he.
They do exist, and there are many of them.
I think Rand made an error when she extended her excellent business principles into the world of human interaction. She was brilliant except for that.
Multiple times he over-the-top bragged about Warp Speed. Continued doing it in the early part of the pre-nomination run.
The truth is the vaccines produced by Warp Speed were unproven risky technology hence the EUAs. At no point was the risk properly communicated to the public. It was “marketed” to the public! Selling, buying, building development is what Trump understands well. His past business experiences and education didn’t prepare him for that type of problem. He had to trust people he didn’t know and he assumed they would be professional. They weren’t! Prudence and caution should have been the watchword. COVID was sold to him and to all of us as an existential event, probably his own germophobia contributed to his willingness to belief it. All that set him up to make some bad decisions and cheerlead about them. I’m glad for whatever reason he has stopped the “rah-rah” about Warp Speed.
I agree. But still, that is not lying.
My mother would call such bragging lying if it’s not later as publicly corrected as it was first spoken. I’ll go with her view.
lying: marked by or containing untrue statements
No offense to you or your mother, but those are not the same thing.
At this point we need all the allies we can get. Even if he wasn’t there in 2016 we need allies now
