Some years ago, I was trying a denaturalization case of someone who aided the Nazis. As an aside, the judge mentioned that his dad had been distraught upon hearing of the Hitler-Stalin pact because he knew it meant there would be a world war. I felt much the same upon reading of the verdict in the New York case against President Trump. There have been a number of fine analyses of the case itself, and I have chosen one which I discuss below for its clarity, but I’m concentrating today on the aftermath of this ill-conceived political hit job.
Destabilizing Effect
As the editors of the Wall Street Journal observed about a “turducken” of a case charging a former president of obscure unprecedented offenses which even if proven would constitute only a misdemeanor on which the statute of limitations had long passed:
The conviction sets a precedent of using legal cases, no matter how sketchy, to try to knock out political opponents, including former Presidents. Mr. Trump has already vowed to return the favor. If Democrats felt like cheering Thursday when the guilty verdict was read, they should think again. Mr. Bragg might have opened a new destabilizing era of American politics, and no one can say how it will end.
John Lucas contends that this judge, jury, and prosecutors “have flung this country into a downward spiral from which we may never recover,” he argues, and I agree, the verdict is the most dangerous day in our history.
The Democrats have made the rules, and their opponents will have little choice but to play the game.
This is not a game that can or will be played by one side only. The rules are now set. When Republicans have the chance, they will play the game.

When they go low we will have to kick them.
The consequences of EVIL individuals inside the republic. No rules for those individuals. Civilization suffers.
Might I suggest 100 indictments on day one?
There is enough known to indict Obama, Biden, Kerry, Clinton(2), Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, Swalwell, etc.
Hit them so hard it hurts. Make a spectacle out of it.
The end result should work out for Trump, but these analyses that the Republicans will go low and retaliate are pure fantasy. The entire Party aside from Trump and maybe a handful of others are pussies and cucks. Have we heard one Democrat slam this sham? Not one. But of course the usual chatter of Republicans speaking about respecting the process, the jury, the law etc. The Republican Party doesn’t have the will or the fortitude to fight any of this, which is a big part of the reason this country is where it is in 2024.
Deep States really don't want him spreading the word, do they...
That’s a drag. One more thing I’d like to boycott but can’t. I don’t travel internationally.
My little rural county voted 85% for President Trump in 2020. Would be a great place to hold a very prominent Rat to account for their crimes.
There is no ballot box. It has been replaced by a criminal cabal using electronic manipulations designed to preselect the president.
Either the SCOTUS steps in and overturns this farce of a verdict, OR its full blown lawfare.
Pick a corrupt hack of a judge in THE most biased Republican district possible and get a DA who wants to make a name for himself. Then bring charges against prominent Democrats. Then have the judge deny the inevitable change of venue requests. Then issue gag orders on the defendants. The convict them no matter how cockamamie and novel the legal theory has to be in order to charge them at all.
Two can and MUST play at this game.
It is precisely the nature of the kicking that is at stake.
Oh. Okay. The ball-less, gut-less masters of "turn the other cheek" are suddenly gonna get down and dirty with the Dems. Just as soon as they retake the House and Senate and Executive branches in a future faraway "fair and honest" election. There's gonna be indictments and prosecutions like never before. I just can't wait.
Yeah, we've all seen the game the GOP plays on its constituents.
This trial wasn’t about politics.
The Democrat Party Organized Crime Syndicate is not a political party.
It is a criminal gang.
Anyone who supports the Democrats has a criminal heart, mind and soul.
They can put out a smokescreen of compassion and caring, but they are just criminals.
Thugs….goons…..Democrats
<< Mr. Bragg might have opened a new destabilizing era of American politics. >>
Biden and his puppetmasters opened it. Bragg and Merchan were just their lackeys.
We all know Obama and his shadow White House are coordinating this lawfare.
You can go here for a copy of Merchan’s 55 pages of byzantine instructions to the jury that they were not allowed to have in the jury room which is very unusual
They are so complex that even a jury made up of 12 jurists would not be able to retain them from memory in deliberation.
It would require hundreds of trips to the courtroom to have Merchan read pieces back as they deliberate. I suspect the reason he would not let them have them was to put them in a he must have been guilty of something frame of mind rather than adhering to the notion of proving all the elements beyond a reasonable doubt
The federal government has gotten too big, perhaps it is time to take back the powers granted in our constitution to the states and to restrict the federal government to those powers granted it by our constitution.
The first step is stop taking federal money (with all the strings attached).
The second step is to instruct their Senators to start representing the state and not those that bribe them (with campaign money) and if they don’t begin investigating them and charging them with corruption (when found).
The third step is to simply ignore those laws that are harmful to the citizens of their states (such as most environmental laws).
I go on but just look at Texas. They stood up to the federal government and the feds backed down.
If our Republic is to be saved then the states need to get stronger and the federal government needs to get weaker.
Among people with low IQ’s and super-sized ambitions,
their lust for power overwhelms everything else in their pathetic, loser lives.
