Once America as it was is changed inyo something else, we shall never see the likes of her again. Never. Once “it” is gone, there is no restoration possible.

The Roman experience is that subsequent challengers of the status quo get smarter, more effective, and more ruthless.

They also usually had an army to back them up...

Rome might not have survived as long as it did without the many civil wars it experienced.
Same for the UK.

Same for many countries.

He makes good points, but I think John Adams statement about the Constitution being fit only for a moral and religious people is also essential to understanding where we are. At one time it would be fair to say most Americans were generally religious or moral and likely both, especially when compared to today.

If we cannot restore respect for morality and religion, we cannot retain a Constitutional Republic in my view.

As usual, ClownHall sits around with its corporate head up its nether regions...

Next, this idiot writer will probably come out with a warning about the possibility that the japs would bomb Pearl Harbor and get the U.S. into World War II...

Somewhere in our country, there is a person living today who is going to become our first dictator. The only question is whether he will be a socialist like a Hitler or Stalin or Mao, or a conservor like a Charlesmagne or Pinochet or Milei. At my advanced age, I fear I will still live long enough to see it.

“ We have a dictatorship, but it’s a collective, not a person.”

This.

But in truth, so did Rome.

Yes, you draw an apt comparison here, but there is also something about America (the government) that is beyond the Soviet comparison: they are extremely arrogant, and feel unconquerable, unbeatable…the sole superpower with the entire world supplicant to them. This extreme arrogance is a little more like Nazi Germany, but probably beyond even that.

It is that arrogance, that willingness to treat other nations and peoples as playthings that will eventually unite other powers to unite and destroy the cancer that the United States government has now become.

We have a dictatorship, but it’s a collective, not a person.

Politburo. With Biden as the second coming of Leonid Brezhnev.

His use of “patricians” is not accurate for the first century B.C. By then the patrician families were a small minority of the Roman nobility. Caesar was a patrician but most of his leading enemies were plebeian nobles—Cato, Pompey, the Claudii Marcelli, Domitius Ahenobarbus, etc. Brutus and Cassius were both plebeians. There was still some prestige to being able to claim patrician (male) ancestry, but many of the most powerful members of the elite were of plebeian ancestry.

"American men typically think about ancient Rome several times a day”

What?

Yeah, for most of us, it probably happens when something gets completely FUBARed at work, and we find ourselves trying to remember which three Roman legions were destroyed in the Varian Disaster, as we attempt to fix things for our employer.
