Businesses in Magaluf have sounded the alarm over a lack of holidaymakers in the party city in the lead-up to the holiday season after weeks of anti-tourism protests.
Photos show that Magaluf, one of Majorca's busiest cities, is still half-empty - days before tourists are meant to be flooding its streets, bringing with them much-needed spending money that is vital for the local economy.
The Majorca Daily Bulletin reported that businesses are now anxious about whether enough tourists will come to the island.

Who is protesting the tourists? Is it rich people living at the locales who do not rely on tourist dollars?
Either way…who wants to be a tourist anywhere even if they get a whiff of news that they aren’t welcome? I’ve found the Bahamas to be very unfriendly to tourists. I’ll never go back there.
LOL, “We Don’t Want Tourists!”, now “We Need Tourists!”
Cuba used to be the go-to vacation spot for sun and fun before the Communists claimed tourism was capitalist exploitation of the locals. I had to read some of their ‘literature’ in Spanish classes - stories about fat American turistas coming to Havana and expecting to be waited on by the impoverished
peons.
The three young guys in that photo won’t be picking up any hot young ladies on that deserted beach.
Interesting.
One of the biggest party locations in the Med has burned their cash cow.
You don’t want to order a drink from a cafe where they might spit in it.
Anyone else wondering if those so-called protests were astroturfed...
Cui bono.
Yep. One of my favorite places, Mallorca. I went there on liberty in the US Navy, took my wife there on our honeymoon, and went back again on our second honeymoon when we renewed our vows.
They are complete idiots if they reject their tourism. They are going to find out what real poverty is, because there isn’t any real industry there other than tourism.
I have always felt that Cuba could become the vacation paradise of the word if they simply rejected communism and embraced capitalism. But they won’t.
Yep. See my post above. Cuba could become fabulously wealthy if they cleaned up, constructed casinos, and embraced real, free tourism.
The beaches there have been said to be some of the most beautiful in the world, and Cubans were reputed to have been some of the smartest and hardest working people before the Communists took over.
We welcome everyone to vacation in Florida, except for yankee scum and illegal aliens.
I have read that the Bass fishing in Cuba is incredible. Fish that would set lake if not state records here are “yea, I’ve seen bigger” fish in Cuba.
Typical leftist insanity. Economy based on tourism...Protest tourists. LOL. I hope they enjoy the suck.
Where in Texas is this Magaluf?
I read the article but still don’t understand the reason for the anti-tourist protests.
People buy up properties for AirBNBs, driving out the locals.
Criminals don’t like outside witnesses.
It is a pity. A real shame. The quality of life for those people could be immensely improved by tourism.
I hate Communism. I hate everything about it. Which makes me hate the people here in this country, pieces of privileged crap who have never known what it is like to live under tyranny, who want to bring it here and institutionalize it.
Come to think of it, I despise and detest them far more than I do real Communists.
Travel: Go somewhere else to eat stuff, buy stuff, and stare at stuff. I’m fortunate to live in a place where there is plenty of stuff to eat, buy and stare at.
