Join four-term Congresswoman and 2020 Presidential Candidate Tulsi Gabbard for her inaugural appearance with the Nixon Library.
Tulsi Gabbard is a combat veteran and Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, author, and keynote speaker. She was elected to the Hawaii Legislature at the age of twenty-one, served on three deployments to the Middle East and Africa, represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021, and was Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. She left the Democrat Party in 2022. The Congresswoman’s military service, whirlwind political career, and love of country have made her one of the most influential voices on the national political scene today.

Near the beginning of her speech she told the story of how as a freshman Democrat she was invited at the start of the session to read a portion of The Constitution into the Record. She went, and was surprised that it was mostly Republicans. When she went back to her office she asked around - did you guys not get the invitation?
The reply was something like: “Oh Tulsi - you’re a freshman so you didn’t know. But that reading of the Constitution is just some Right-Wing stunt they do every year.”
She said that is who we are fighting against. Leaders that don’t believe in the Constitution. Leaders that don’t believe that their power is derived from the People. Leaders that don’t believe in free speech, or the rule of law.
She’s a communist.
Stood with the antifa radicals at Standing Rock against the oil pipeline.
Assault weapons ban
Pro reparations
Pro amnesty
Ban fossil fuels
Ban nuclear energy
Eliminate the Electoral College
Raise minimum wage
This was her platform, am I to believe she has reversed her position on all of these issues? Not buying it for a second.
One thing I’ve learned, Democrats will lie and tell you anything they believe will get your vote. They have no conscience.
And she supported Bernie and endorsed JoyEE !
Here is her part of her statement from that time (2016):
“There is nothing more important than protecting the air we breathe, the land we call home, and the water we drink.
That’s why I opposed the Keystone Pipeline. If we are going to take climate change seriously, we must begin to say no to the construction of new pipelines and shift away from fossil fuels to create an energy policy that is sustainable and safe for our future.”
That is disappointing. In 2019 she was still lamenting the failure of addressing climate change.
She had good points in her speech, but if we are huddled in blankets waiting for our allocated portion of electricity to be sent to our homes, an open border is pretty low on the list of concerns.
“Climate change” (showing how smart a person is), abortion (the heart of a person) and gun rights (Constitutionalist) are litmus tests for me.
In her speech she talked about why the Second Amendment is so important - put her NRA rating as a Congress woman was an “F”. And in 2022 she supported abortion as long as it was before 20 weeks gestation.
Nice post.
I just finished watching her speech. While I am not a "Tulsi fan", I found her speech entirely acceptable as a general statement of her positions now, not what they were 8 or 12 years ago when she was representing uber-left Hawaii. I look forward to hearing more position/policy specifics.
I encourage those FReepers who have knee-jerk reactions and post negative comments based on old data, to consider that some respected, even revered Republicans (Donald Trump , Ronald Reagan, etc.) were ardent Democrats before they became Republicans. Would you reject Trump now in 2024 because he previously supported, contributed to, and voted for Democrats?
On the off chance that Trump picks her as his running mate, I encourage FReepers to watch her speech and form a more informed opinion. It might not change your opinion, but it will be better informed.
I also note that she spoke quite well for an hour without a teleprompter, just some written notes. Our current president can't even speak coherently for 30 seconds even using a teleprompter. ("pause")
Thank you for making me look and getting a bit more educated about her. (It still was a good speech!)
But - as she complained about against the Democrats - “don’t just listen to what they say - watch what they do” applies to her as well.
Provide proof she’s a communist. I’d be interested in how she got in the military being an obvious communist.
People do change, Trump was a registered Democrat and stated the economy ran better under Democrats just 20 years ago and Hillary Clinton was good at foreign policy.
I had serious concerns back in 2016 but he’s definitely a changed man.
Nice try. Fail.
Squishy greenie. Pass.
“She left the Democrat Party in 2022.”
It is not “Tulsi Time”. Please make a note of it.

She voted for her positions.
Now she only talks because she wants to be elected.
Talk is cheap. But *all* she does is talk.
Has she said she repents from supporting the Communist Bernie?
He had Tulsi on about once a month, until he got fired.
He tried so hard to act naturally, and he completely failed.
Tulsi picked up instantly on his body language and his voice, but she was always completely professional.
As far as her politics - I am a little skeptical about her alleged Right Wing conversion.
Both Reagan and Trump had epiphanies and changed. It happens.
I like your litmus test.
👍
I don't believe for a moment that she's crossed the center line from Left to Right. She's somewhere in the middle, but the Democrats have gone off the deep Left end and she is having none of that sh!t.
The meme that aMorePerfectUnion posted above in #15 is way out of date. She very clearly, loudly, publicly left the Democrat party and unequivocally rejects and renounces their destructive policies. She spent most of her speech yesterday tearing the Democrats a new butthole and setting it on fire.
But is she a big-C Conservative? I don't think so. She has adopted and expressed many positions that are in line with conservative policy, but she also retains some liberal positions.
I'm not going to go into that here; if you're interested it's right here: Political_positions_of_Tulsi_Gabbard
In the unlikely event that Trump chooses her as VP candidate, we'll surely learn more.
