Russia launched plans to sharply raise taxes on high earners and companies to fill state coffers and fund what it sees as a long war in Ukraine.
A government commission on Wednesday approved a Finance Ministry plan to introduce a new progressive income tax as well as raise corporate tax rates. The proposed amendments, which would come into force from next year, are expected to bring an additional 2.6 trillion rubles, or around $29 billion.

Per capita household income is around $7,100, according to data provider CEIC.
Russia’s military expenditures are already running at over 6% of gross domestic product, approaching levels reached by the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War in the 1980s. Earlier this month, Putin appointed a macroeconomist, Andrei Belousov, as minister of defense, highlighting the extent to which the war has become central to Russia’s economic paradigm.

ZEEPER FOLLIES PINGLIST!(((PING!)))
As opposed to Ukraine, who uses compromised politicians in the US and elsewhere in Europe to raise taxes on their people to pay for the Ukraine War (and for the pensions of Ukraine politicians, and Zelenski's million dollar properties, etc.)
What boobs! Now wonder they have a national debt of $280billion! They should pay for their imperialist wars the way we do, we borrowed $8TRILLION since 2001 for the war on terror. How many tens of trillions to be borrowed for the new, neocon, generational Cold War II?
$7100 a year. Ooooh, mighty Ruzzia.
“Russia Raises Income Tax on Rich to Pay for Ukraine War”
I thought all the revenue from petroleum sales was supposed to do that - wasn’t that why Bide shut down all the pipelines and new petroleum exploration in the US? To shift the demand to Russia?

Before Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Russia was being seen more and more as a friend and NATO was in serious decline, so much so that Trump was having to threaten other member countries to keep up their ends of the deal.
Now, thanks to Putin, NATO is expanding, European countries are lining up to support Ukraine, Russia has lost markets and friends, while Putin’s military is killing and maiming and destroying his neighbors, along with 100s of thousands of his own, too.
The “I did that” meme did belong to Biden, but now it’s Putin’s.
Putin is doing this. Not Vicky Nuland, not obama, not Biden, nor any former or current European leader of any NATO country.
All they are is just the excuse Vladimir Vladimirovich needed, his someone/something to blame, for him to do what he is doing now, which is apparently what he has always wanted to do anyway.
Eternity waits for us all, Vladimir Vladimirovich, but I have to wonder about what you set in motion and what is coming for you now in this life. Repent while there’s still time.
“...thanks to Putin, NATO is expanding, European countries are lining up to support Ukraine, Russia has lost markets and friends, while Putin’s military is killing and maiming and destroying his neighbors, along with 100s of thousands of his own ... What you say is true. But the weak response to Russia’s invasion of the Republic of Georgia and the weak response of the West to Russia’s 2014 land grabs helped embolden the bully eleven-time-zone country to launch the all-out invasion of the one-time-zone country. Ukraine, to its credit has written a great chapter in innovative and intrepid military history.
