One of MLB’s most infamous umpires, Ángel Hernández, is planning on retiring on Tuesday, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.
USA Today first reported the news late Monday night.
Major League Baseball and Hernández were negotiating a financial settlement over the past two weeks and came to an agreement during the holiday weekend, according to the report.
Hernández, a Cuban-American, is viewed by far as the league’s most controversial umpire for his propensity to miss calls and had previously sued for racial discrimination back in 2017, claiming that he had been passed over for World Series assignments and a crew chief position due to his race.
That lawsuit was dismissed in 2021 and an appeals court upheld that ruling last year.
Hernández, 62, umped his last game back on May 9 as the home plate ump in a game between the White Sox and Guardians in Cleveland.
He became a full-time MLB umpire in 1993.

Our long National nightmare is over.🤣🤣
No! Kristi fired AT a dog.
I didn’t know that being incompetent at your job is controversial.
I didn’t get it. So Trump said McChrystal was fired like a dog-—which I never heard of before that.
So my mistake was “at a dog” replacing “like a dog.”
Too confusing for me. But thanks for the clarification.
The scene you entered can not be used to rate Allen. Allen has been a referee, positioned in the offensive backfield, since he entered the league in 2014. The call you displayed came from the head linesman tossing the flag, not the referee.

It’s a phrase Trump has used from time to time meaning to be terminated from the job and escorted out the door by security.
And yet, by law, we can’t remove the worst president in history, and he won’t retire (or his bosses won’t let him retire).
Thanks. Every once in a while there is more proof I do not know everything.
Frank, I was just teasing. I enjoyed your comment!
I saw a clip of one call he made on what he said was a follow through third strike, NOT a legit checked swing, which is surely was, and the batter went BALLISTIC justifiably so! He got ejected from the game, and his team lost. Surprised this ump lasted this long with those kinds of calls.

Financial settlement? Sure, major league umpires have a demanding job but they have good incomes and excellent benefits including pensions and health benefits when they retire.
Not the most liked umpire for sure
I’m sure MLB said it’s over for Angel.
He had so many bad calls this season and the technology for grading balls/strikes is very good. My guess is that MLB looked at his results and said he’s done.
And thankfully so.
Must be great getting a settlement for being incompetent.
Well, YAY!
Angel H is a stain on umpires. This jamoak was just bad. Everybody knew it but they just couldn’t get rid of him.
Was he betting on games? Or being pressured by gamblers?
Lasik.com had a savage X: “We offered him free lasik, but he missed the call.”
Maybe it wasn’t incompetence...
