I am trying to decide between Visible (Not the + one) and Mint cell phone services. My needs are simple; I don't do gaming, streaming, watch movies on the phone, etc. I call people; I receive calls (not from foreign countries), I make and receive texts and I research stuff on line (like price comparisons between stores). Do any FReepers have experience with Visible or Mint? I'd appreciate their input.
I have Spectrum cell service, under the infrastructure of Verizon.

Do you have any facts/references that led you to that conclusion - because where I live that is not the case, as far as I know - Spectrum built out their network here decades ago.
I’ve had Mint for a while - like everyone else here I’m quite happy...especially with the price!

I hear good things about Patriot. They give money to the Right causes. My concern about these third party providers is speed. Do they throttle you down?
Ask Google: what infrastructure does spectrum use?

A year ago I got a good deal on a phone and a year of service from Mint Mobile. Calls drop so much I’ve just about thrown it out the window several times. Never happened when I had Straight Talk. I don’t know if it’s the phone or the service. It goes through T Mobile, with which I have home internet. The home internet works flawlessly, but I’m still not completely sure whether the problem is the phone or the service. I called Mint about it one time but the foreign assistant was absolutely no help.
Myself, my ex, and our son had all been Verizon users for many many years. Because of geography we all had our own plans. The cheapest of those plans was mine, and it was in the neighborhood of $90 a month for 8GB of data with rollover. The other two plans were far higher.
I looked into the Verizon options, and honestly they were a joke. I had to get a new phone and the bill would drop by maybe $10 a month.
After researching the reasonably priced carriers extensively, I went with Mint, choosing their 15GB plan. Paid annually, it’s only $20 a month, and they had a special where you get that price while paying only 3 months worth and getting three additional months free. So for only $60 plus about $10 tax, I got 6 months of service. Activating my several year old Galaxy S9+ went like clockwork! Almost instantly I was off Verizon and on Mint.
I also referred the ex and my son to Mint, and their bills dropped as did mine. Mint allows you 4 paid referrals per year, and just with those two I earned a $150 credit! And, as newly referred Mint customers, each received a $15 credit on their accounts as well!
The service has been excellent. There are a couple of places where I had very weak Verizon service but now don’t have service. These are both inside a couple of metal buildings. That is literally the only difference I’ve noticed.
My 6 months is almost up, so I’m about to renew for a year at 12 x $20 = $240, minus my $150 credit, for a net amount of $90.
I recommend them very highly.

I have no idea of the technicalities,
from what I do know Patriot Mobile is where many patriots/ FReeps should consider.

I’ve been on Mint for almost 3 years and have had no problems. $15/mo. I’ve been meaning to look into Patriot Mobile. I figure if I go with them it will put me on the FBI’s terrorist watch list, but I’m probably already there for other donations and purchases.
My brother and his wife have Visible and they’re happy with it. They use it for wifi calling.
For those with Xfinity Internet (only one in my neighborhood), take a close look at Xfinity mobile for your phone. If you can live on 1gig of data shared per month, you pay under $16 for two phones with unlimited calling and text. If you need unlimited data, it’s closer to $30 for two phones. You must have Xfinity Internet at home to get that deal.
I’ve been paying $15.74 a month for our two iPhones that we brought with us.
Try Consumer Cellular... They’re cheap and you only talk to humans.

Most of them are MVNOs. We almost signed up with one of them, but learned that the the major providers send MVNO users to the end of the line when there is heavy traffic. Went with Verizon. It is SO expensive.

the question stands: how is Patriot Mobile re any others all using the big 3 networks?
They buy “time” from all the major carriers at wholesale rates, meaning Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, and packages and resells it under their name. So if you use them, you’re still supporting those carriers and their causes in some shape & form.
I’ve never used a provider such as patriot or mint or consumer cellular. But it is quite possible premium payers get the better service during times of trouble or high use. I at one time worked for a large county government. The cellular companies had a priority capability in times of diaster. Top officials and first responders had quickest access when service was restored. As time and service permitted, it began to filter to secondary elected officials and their staffs. Last to get service was consumers. I’m guessing there was probably a hierarchy for that too. But I do know they can provide or deny access as they deem necessary. What patriot and other providers don’t say in their commercials is you’re still using a woke company and paying them, albeit indirectly to use their services.
Highly recommend Tello. They use T-mobile Towers. $12 for 5gb data, unlimited text, 300 min. calling time. Or $14 a month for unlimited calling time. Taxes not included and vary widely from state to state. Surprisingly California is less than two dollars a month on the $12 plan.
