I ran into this after seeing multiple articles about not letting dogs, etc., eat large quantities of cicadas. (We have 2 broods emerging in areas near us.)

This just seemed funny in a way, as this would mean eating most any insect would be a problem for anyone allergic to shrimp, etc. I guess they are just out of luck in the brave new world planned for us. /s

I would be sampling them in various forms for fun, I did it with cactus knowing it was edible, cooking it in various ways to sample it and learn what the deal is.

I first thought that the people who actually ate cicadas would just pick the adults off the trees and roast them. But then found out you have to get the bugs newly emerged from their shells, meaning you have to harvest them overnight when they are emerging.

That’s just not practical at all.
