Ok, so it ISN’T my computer after all. I’ve been cussing it a blue streak.
It happened last night as well.

I am NOT a techie, but I think it is MICROSOFT, who is the slow moving culprit.
Now, the geniuses on FR will tell me that I am nuts.
So I defer to those who feel it is Free Republic.

Affirmative.
Thanks for posting; I was getting ready to reboot.

FWIW, it just got a lot better for me. Down to about 4-5 seconds, nearly back to normal. Wheee!

Yup - Freerepublic is unusually slow.

No more co-located FR hardware server any more (used to be Jim/John owned server hardware co-located at an NTT data center in the CA Bay Area/San Jose), but John/Jim switched to a virtual server/cloud computing service call “Linode” a year or 2 ago that later got bought out by “Akamai”. The PING times to Akamai are OK...so possibly a DDOS attack on the FR domain???

Thank you for mentioning it. I thought it was my internet provider.

I just noticed it. I thought it was my browser so tried another one. It was still the same.

Is your computer plugged in? Did you try turning it off and back on? Did you reboot your router? Did you empty the trash or recycle bin? Did you update your browser and clear your browser cache and history? Did you run scandisk and defrag?

Whew! I made sure I was logged in first thing when my connection was slowed down. I am here in Spain and thought it was my hotel connection. Went to other websites and had good speed. The slow down was unique to FR. It appears quicker for the time being.
