My wife has not had a sense of smell since COVID. Not sure if that qualifies as "Long COVID," but it totally sucks.

Anyone else had this issue and heard of a potential solution/treatment?

I knew a couple who had the same problem and I think they just had to wait it out until that sense returned. I’ll contact them to make sure I heard right.

Have a brother that lost his sense of smell as well, it partly came back, not sure that there was ant treatment that helped, must be terrible.

I’ve gotten used to my wife not having a sense of small. Buy on occasion it is heightened. I got yelled at today for tossing an unwashed empty sardine can in the trash. Apparently it was an offense odor.

I really do feel sorry for her. But Ann Coulter is right. Long covid is in the same camp as most gluten and peanut allergies.

I had an aunt born with no sense of smell. Can you imagine?

Smell PT.

Smell Retraining Therapy

https://www.enthealth.org/be_ent_smart/smell-retraining-therapy/

I also have a theory that since zinc plays a role in the sense of smell, and zinc is also an anti-viral if it gets depleted in the body because of an illness, the loss of the sense of smell might be related to zinc deficiency.

I mostly lost my sense of smell the last time I had a cold and I did the smell PT this site suggests. I also took some zinc supplements. I don’t know if either of those things worked, or I just recovered it on my own, but my sense of smell is back.

When I sniffed the fragrances, I inhaled deeply and caught just a bare whiff of the substance. I then focused on that and remembered what it smelled like when I could smell. I think one of the keys is to really focus on what you can smell, no matter how little

It’s worth a try. Good luck with that.

COVID-19 and Zinc: A Connection to Sense of Smell

Research suggests that zinc may play a crucial role in the sense of smell, particularly in the context of COVID-19. Studies have found that zinc deficiency may contribute to the loss of smell and taste in COVID-19 patients. Symptoms of anosmia/ageusia reported in COVID-19 may reflect an adaptive response of locally decreased nasopharyngeal zinc (Zn), ultimately resulting in decreased ACE-2, a crucial receptor for Sars-CoV-19 binding.

Zinc is an essential nutrient that plays a vital role in maintaining the sense of smell and taste. Carbonic anhydrase, a zinc-dependent metalloenzyme, is critical to maintain taste and smell function. Additionally, zinc deficiency has been linked to anosmia and taste dysfunction.

Some studies have proposed that zinc may have a potential role in treating taste malfunctions in COVID-19 patients. Further research and randomized control trials are needed to fully understand the relationship between zinc and COVID-19-induced anosmia.

It is essential to note that zinc deficiency is not the only cause of anosmia and taste dysfunction in COVID-19 patients. Other factors, such as oxidative stress, ATP depletion, cytoskeletal changes, and apoptosis of olfactory neuronal cells, may also contribute to these symptoms.

In summary, the available research suggests that zinc may play a crucial role in the sense of smell, particularly in the context of COVID-19. Further studies are needed to fully understand the relationship between zinc and COVID-19-induced anosmia and to explore potential therapeutic applications.

I’ve read it’s supposed to return after a while. How long has it been?

Here is an article on it.

Personally, if you have objective signs then I would say yes.

A lot of commentary if you google on the subject. Has she tried adding folic acid to the diet. Try it for 90 days. (ps-I am an MD.)

Anyone else had this issue and heard of a potential solution/treatment?

Over 2 1/2 years . Some things trigger a pleasant whiff. Several things will trigger a gag reflex. Bleach, vinegar, lemon juice all suspiciously similar. Skunked dogs (n=3) smell like brown paper.

Tried several different sensing protocols. Essential oils were no help. Lion’s Mane mushroom capsules helped more with cognitive functions. Haven’t tried any of the detox products.

Have other issues that seem more problematic.

Same here - oh and sometimes I can’t really regulate my body temperature too.

No clotshots but I was very sick when I came down with COVID in late 2020. My sense of smell still hasn’t really returned and with it went my ability to taste. It’s been a very bland 3+ years....

My friends got back to me on the loss of smell. They just had to wait it out with no cure available except time. Took several months until one day they were able to smell again.
