Japan's raccoon infestation has gotten considerably worse over the last decade, multiple Japanese news sources are reporting.
Nearly 1,300 raccoons were captured during the 2022 fiscal year, said Tokyo's government. This is about five times the number that were captured 10 years ago, reported Kyodo News, a Japanese news agency.
In 2013, the Japanese government reiterated the need to combat raccoons as an invasive species.
Raccoons are not native to Japan, but were brought to the country in the 1970s following the popularity of the 1977 anime "Rascal the Raccoon."

New movie coming soon: "Godzilla vs. Rascal the Raccoon."
Looks like a tanuki.
So, if rascal the racoon is the inpetus, why all the boas in Florida. Sammy the snake?
I’ve had to deal with an armadillo. Finally had to break out my heavy artillery - .22 long rifle lol
I’d rather deal with a raccoon infestation than an infestation by “uninvited newcomers” from the south. At least you can trap and dispose of the raccoons.
Leftists freak over invasive plants and animals when invasive PEOPLE are the far bigger problem.
This kind of thing didn’t happen when fur coats were in style.
Just sayin’
I once worked with a guy who prepared racoon in a way that made it wonderfully delicious , he passed in 2003, at the age of 98.
Raccoons breaking into your house to steal your liquor.
Try that here you little masked bandit and you’ll be eating lead!
Racoons, squirrel, gators. Why, when you can have agood steak?
“Raccoons are not native to Japan, but were brought to the country in the 1970s “
Dumbasses.
“So, if rascal the racoon is the inpetus, why all the boas in Florida. Sammy the snake?”
Creepy Goth kids.

Looks like a badger to me, too.
I see raccoons nearly every evening in my yard, and sometimes on my deck if I forget to remove the bird food in time. I had one there just two nights ago. Gave him a scolding but I know that won’t help for long. He’ll be back.
Well they gave us the japanese beetle.
What could possibly go wrong?
Well, unlike the infestation across our southern border, they can shoot, trap, and kill them without being called racist.
Id rather have a racoon invasion than the illegal alien garbage we have pouring into our country
...I’ll trade that for some of the problems America has any day.
And kudzu.
And now it’s time for another episode of
Samurai Raccoon Exterminator!
