A mother, who was the victim of a home invasion, is outraged after a 911 dispatcher told her she should call a local lawmaker to request more police funding.
Michelle, who has chosen to remain anonymous, called 911 six times after two men broke into her Chicago home. When they picked up, they told her if she wanted help from the police, she should call her alderman and demand more funding for the Chicago police department.
'A gentleman got on and said sorry to say we have no units to send you…then there was an awkward pause,' she told NBC Chicago. 'He also recommended I call my alderman and I said why- and he said encourage him to hire more police.'
She continued: 'The dispatcher also asked me if I would consider defending myself … if I had a weapon or considered getting one.'
The victim said two men entered her house around 12:30 pm when she unlocked her door to let her dog out.
'I saw two men wearing masks standing inside my house,' 'I screamed – 'I am calling the police' and they bolted.'
Michelle and her neighbor chased the men away from their houses, and then once she was safe, she called 911.
'They told me dispatch was on the way and wait outside,' she said.
When officers finally arrived at her house, they showed deep remorse, profusely apologizing for not getting there sooner.
'The officers who did show up cared and were apologetic it took so long to get them there,' she said.
Chicago Police blamed the delay on the priority list for 911 dispatch calls, they told NBC Chicago. The department said if a person's life is not in immediate danger, it may fall low on the priority list.

They shouldn’t have said it, but isn’t the real story the lack of police funding and the long response time?
911 is a joke.
Dispatcher has a point
Is peak absurdity finally within our reach?
Not by me in the burbs. They are on it.
This is where the Fox chick, Soros DA, won’t allow officers who pull folks over for traffic issues to look for other crimes, drugs, guns because of racism.
Don’t call the police, call a realtor and move
Why? Is it a lie. The dispatcher can’t dispatch a nonexistent police officer and the victim here is part of a voting public that is getting what it wanted.
Maybe in yo town.
Yeah Boieee!
Why?
Damn fine advice if you ask me.
I remember that song (rap):
So get up, get, get, get down
911 is a joke in yo town
Get up, get, get, get down
Late 911 wears the late crown
Get up, get, get, get down
911 is a joke in yo town
Get up, get, get, get down
Late 911 wears the late crown
Why shouldn’t they say that? Would you rather they play elevator music, periodically interrupted by a “Please Hold. Your Call Is Important To Us” or what?
Yea but they’re correct. They need funding to curb the escalating violence in this country. Then you get into the police state concerns so I guess there’s no easy way.
I strongly disagree. It isn't the dispatcher's fault that there were no police to send.
Everyone who calls 911 and is told that there are no police available to send should be told why. Elections have consequences. Democrat voters need to choose more wisely.
What’s funny is Duran Duran did a cover version.
There was no 911 call until after the poor visitors ran away. They get a police REPORT that will be totally investigated SOME DAY.
why??? ‘A gentleman got on and said sorry to say we have no units to send you…”
he just told her the truth...
Chicago and the State if Illinois are far too busy spending hundreds of millions of dollars on illegal aliens to fund police.
