A U.S. Army officer working at the Defense Intelligence Agency has resigned from the military citing his objection to Israel’s war in Gaza, according to an open letter he published online Monday saying he is distressed that his work has contributed to the deaths of Palestinian civilians.

And by your logic, we couldn’t have done 90% of the military operations we have.
Israel is well within historical norms of war. Despite jihadi propaganda, they are not indiscriminately bombing. They are bombing enemy positions. No rule of law requires military action to stop because of the presence of civilians.
However, Hamas is massively violating law of war by basing in hospitals, firing from civilians areas, refusing to let civilians evacuate, attacking food relief convoys, stealing relief, rape, mass murder and genocide.

Right. If he can’t support his government’s policy then resignation was the appropriate move.
There is a huge difference between targeting civilians, as Hamas did on October 7th and as the soldiers did at My Lai, and collateral damage, where civilian casualties are a side effect if targeting legitimate military targets.
Israel works very hard to minimize civilian casualties, and has the lowest civilian to militant ratio EVER. We ourselves had a higher ratio in Iraq.
And this is despite Hamas’ using civilians to hide within.
Imagine placing a rocket launchers next to a school, waiting for a crowd to gather, and only then shooting off rockets to Israel. That is what Hamas does.
And Israel will not fire back if there are too many civilians there.
In effect: Hamas attacks civilians and uses their own as shields; Israel protects its civilians and does everything it can to minimize the deaths of enemy civilians.
The Gazans still support Hamas, despite Hamas’ actions leading to everything that has happened since. I feel for the people of Gaza because they are brainwashed pawns, but no one has ever come up with a workable solution other than this type of action.
