Why the internet is comparing the Met Gala to 'The Hunger Games'
Mashable ^ | May 7, 2024 | Meera Navlakha

--snip--

The Met Gala drew comparisons to The Hunger Games quickly online on Sunday. As social media flooded with reactions to the spectacle of the red carpet, others were acutely aware of the scenes unravelling outside the prestige of the gala. Just about a mile away from the Met, hundreds of pro-Palestine activists demonstrated in protest of the war, with many blocked from entering the gala itself. And miles away, Israeli armed forces carried out an assault on the city of Rafah, resulting in dozens of casualties and injuries.

Simultaneously, the student movement across college campuses in the U.S. has resulted in thousands of arrests and cancelled commencements, as university goers protest in solidarity with Palestine, despite efforts to suppress their demonstrations.

The circumstances surrounding both the Met Gala and the ongoing devastation of violence in Gaza, and the subsequent link with between Ballard's story and the protests outside the event, was almost too clear. The Met Gala itself has not changed: it is always a chance for extravagance, an overt display of opulence, and a moment for the cult of celebrity. But the timing, this year, has raised different questions.

It's less surprising then, that users on X (formally Twitter), turned to The Hunger Games as an apt metaphor. The line between fiction and dystopian reality, say these users, has been blurred.

The one time I would have hoped the Protesters would have gotten in.

There wouldn’t have been enough popcorn.

If you think about it, you can see the similarities between the Met Gala and The Hunger Games.

On one hand you have ruling class elite aristocracy and on the other you have working class serfs serving up the goods so the rich can prosper and show off.

That's where we're at right now.

The liberal elite in the Democratic Party is ruling over us.

They find the middle class folks annoying.

"The line between fiction and dystopian reality, say these users, has been blurred."

Indeed it has. All the moslems we let in (legally and illegally) are full-blown jihadists inside our walls and are training leftist American youth (putatively Christian, agnostic or atheist) to be their foot soldiers. Screaming "Death to America" (after you cancel our student loans) inside our country is dystopian reality, to be sure.

But I don't think that is the "dystopian reality" the author is writing about.

The one issue in this example that runs counter to the comparison is who is trying to disrupt the Met Gala.

Many of the people trying to disrupt the Met Gala are part of the ruling class elite, rich spoiled brats who have ben brainwashed into believing things like “Queers for Palestine” is logical or that “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free” isn’t an expression of genocide.

The Ruling class elites have created a subculture of their peers that is now trying to destroy them.

A fairer representation would be a bunch of laid off factory workers from the Midwest or disgruntled former military enlisted men who were maimed in the pointless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, basically any American who has been screwed over and shoved into a lower class of living.

They need the foot soldiers to intimidate the opposition. It was an effective tactic in 2020. Now you do not see us organizing that much, do you?

The problem with elites creating the Hamas Crowd here in the USA is a lot of them actually believe the lies and act on the lies.

It would be like the fake BLM crowd attacking the DNC or the Meta Gala, the BLM scheme worked for the Democrats, the Hamas crowd is biting them in the ass because some of the more violent parts of the movement are acting out against the people who created the movement based on their hatred of Israel and many in the DNC who support Israel.

many in the DNC who support Israel.

Liberal Elite includes Jewish Democrats who are pro-Israel like Chuck Schumer, the Senate Majority Leader. So what will they do about the Hamas foot soldiers?

“Why the internet is comparing the Met Gala to ‘The Hunger Games’”

i had no idea the antisemite insurrectionists weren’t getting enough to eat due to a fascist, repressive dictatorship, and that a lucky few were selected to kill each other until only one was left who would then get some food ...

They will eventually call off the NGOs and Liberals Elites financing these idiots, it won’t work for some of that crowd, all the Muslims we’ve let into this country that are tied into this crowd are not solely motivated by money, they could continue to wreak havoc.

Well, yeah. Ordinary citizens have too much to lose. They'll simply dox us. We all have jobs and bills to pay.
