You have to be careful about olive oil to avoid fake oil that is not what the label claims. I recently watched a video that described a mafia operation in Italy where they were buying up bulk quantities of low quality olive oil and other types of oil and putting it into expensive-looking bottles and shipping it to the US. There were a number of arrests, Italy is very strict about this. The US is apparently much less so. People say fakery abounds.

I have read that oils from California are more likely to be the real thing.

I have only recently started taking olive oil, so I am not claiming to be an expert. I recommend doing some research on YouTube, or elsewhere.

One of the things that criminals do is cut real olive oil with sunflower oil and add some chlorophyll to darken it to make it look like EVOO. Here is an article that discusses adulterated EVOO and listings of real Olive Oil brands:
