Credit card... no problem, if the credit card company is notified in timely fashion. Debit card... a little less certain.

My credit union would erase any charges if they are notified right away.

Never use debit cards.

Let the banks and cc companies assume responsibility.

Debit cards have the exact same protection, otherwise, why would people use debit cards. The bank gives you the money back immediately.
