The article is hogwash, it massively downplays the equity and security aspet of owning and way overstates the benefits of renting.
Bottom line after 30 years you own a place to live and it has a significant inherent value, after 30 years of renting you own nothing, zero rent paid comes back to you.

These days most people will be dead before they even get to the halfway point in a 30 year mortgage.
I did a 15 year mortgage and cashed out while the going was hot.
Older folks have this stay put mentality.
Younger folks move around a lot more these days - way more.
Neither is wrong technically, but those are just the facts of the current situation.
