Kroger and Walt Disney are reportedly exploring joining forces in a retail streaming deal that would involve bringing Disney+ to the food retailer’s grocery delivery program.
The two companies are discussing offering the streaming service, called Kroger Boost, as a free perk, people familiar with the situation said, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
If talks come to fruition, Kroger Boost members could reportedly have access to the streaming service as early as this year.

We don’t have any Kroger’s near here, but we do have Tom Thumb/Cumberland Farms Convenience Stores, which they own, so I’ll boycott them.........................

I used to like Kroger but I haven’t shopped at one in a few years. (H-E-B is so much better.) And if Kroger wants to team up with nasty Disney, that’s a good enough reason to continue not shopping there.

I live in a Kroger desert, so I won’t lose sleep over this one.
The one loyalty partnership that currently works for me is Safeway-Exxon. I enter my loyalty number at the pump — the same number I use at Safeway for their discounts — and the gas price is reduced. It was $1.00/gal. off the last time I gassed up, a couple of days ago. I think my food to gas ratio is such that this will probably be sustainable in the long term.
One of the things I hate about the streaming racket is the way it has siloed availability. I don’t like paying monthly subscriptions for a streaming service simply to access its film library. Sooner or later, most movies will end up as an inexpensive rental somewhere, but if I’m interested in a movie, I want to see it now. That’s one of the things that has pulled me back into the theaters (not a lot; maybe 10-12 movies a year at my current rate). Most movies nowadays, however, get only very short and limited theatrical releases, and often none at all. Given my taste in films, this is a frequent problem.
I’d rather “buy a ticket” — that includes PVOD rentals as well as theater viewing — and support good movies when I can find them, as opposed to paying for a subscription and subsidizing streaming giants simply for the scattering of the occasional good films among a blizzard of garbage.
I’d even buy a good movie from Disney if I could do so on a one-off basis. That’s a hypothetical statement; I don’t know if Disney has made any good movies in this century. But when a good movie does emerge from the mill, it means that a good writer, good director, and some good actors have collaborated to actually make something of quality despite the corruption surrounding them. I’m happy to support the saving remnant who are still able to hold the line, even in the belly of the beast. But as it stands now, Disney would silo those films along with everything else, and instead of specifically supporting the good actors, I have to pay a subscription to the sludge factory.
Good point! Aren’t some of the NFL games on for-pay streaming services now?
Seeing as how the NFL is subsidized by the taxpayers, that really should be illegal. But the government couldn’t care less about what’s illegal these days.
I have Kroger Boost. For $60 a year I get home delivery. I still go to the store occasionally, but it’s really convenient to shop online. Yeah, I know. I don’t get to pick the best bananas, but I avoid the open grape bags that who-knows-how-many have ‘grazed on’. All the items come from the warehouse, not the store, so it tends to be fresher. Plus, they throw in special coupons and a bonus on gas points.
Why would Kroger damage their good name by going with Disney? Now, if they partnered with Starz, MGM or similar, much better!
We have krogers but only delivery. No stores. I haven’t ordered, but during Covid, I did get delivered food from Publix. It was great. I only did it when I was lazy.

HEB is coming to Mansfield and it will be awesome.
Kroger team up with Disney will result in me never stepping foot in there.
Some grocery stores here have no idea how loyal HEB customers can be. They will have to step up their game to compete.
