I hear ya.

It might also be said that logic and rationality are imposed on man and his society by reality and nature itself (or even God). In other words, human beings would run off the rails completely were it not fatal to do so (i.e., at odds with reality itself).

In fact, major segments of our present society in the U.S. and around the world are in fact running off the rails...and they appear to be committing suicide by cop (wherein the cop is reality and nature).
