I was in Irian Jaya (the west half of the island of New Guinea) for a few months. Worked with locals that were a half-step from their naked ancestors. (They HATED wearing shoes or boots but were made to on site.) Off the site they would go barefoot in the rain, cold, rocks, etc.
Anyway - they had a nickname for us white people. Translated it meant “long pig”. Not meant as a slur I don’t think - more as a joke. At least they laughed, and said “We don’t eat people anymore! Well, most of us don’t.”
