TOKYO -- Plaintiffs in a police racial profiling suit against the national, Tokyo Metropolitan and Aichi Prefectural governments made impassioned speeches calling for the rule of law and a more open Japanese society during the case's first hearing at the Tokyo District Court on April 15.
Plaintiffs Zain Syed, a Pakistan-born Japanese citizen, Maurice Shelton, a Black American, and Matthew, a South Pacific Islander of Indian descent, allege they have been stopped and questioned and sometimes searched by police multiple times for no specific cause.

Lol, this isn’t going to go far. I’ve been stopped and carded countless times in Japan, even by vaunted authorities like the railroad police, and I don’t think it’s a negative thing.
You take out your Alien ID card, they scan it, and then let you go in a few minutes.
I didn’t like the drug police breaking into my apartment at 7AM because another American had sent himself weed to my apartment building though, but we had some nice conversations about baseball before they left.
” more open Japanese society”
What is that supposed to mean?
“...and I don’t think it’s a negative thing.”
~~~
I don’t think it would bother me either. Not unless it’s incessant and I am late trying to get somewhere. It should be comforting to law abiding citizens that you’re probably in a safer society because of it.
Who wouldn’t like it? Probably criminals.
Why do they have to feel persecuted? Even if they are not personally involved in criminal activity, it suggest to me that they are sympathetic to it. What they probably really want is something like what is happening in the US. People can come and go as they please, even from foreign countries without documentation, and not have to worry about having their activities scrutinized.
I stand with Japan defending Japan for the well-being of the Japanese people.
The Japs may want to think first before they start following “america’s” lead and start dumping their cops in the toilet. Just sayin’.
“more open Japanese society” means “more access for criminals to escape their due penalties”. you know...like in these United States of America. bonk women in the head? go free. rob a store? get out of jail free. assault the police? extra credit. hopefully the Japanese are not as stupid as Americans.
I’d guess they want to destroy their society with turd worlders like we have.
Would could we all do the same for our own countries!
The Japanese have been wise to distrust Gaijin. I know that there was a time when some Japanese people regarded anyone who was not Japanese as sub-human. If they ever allow themselves to be entrapped by that “We Are The World” mentality, it will be their ruination.
I don’t agree with profiling in the absence of probable cause either and the only nationalities I’ve seen ANY statistics for committing more crimes are Chinese and Korean.
Nice high waters Erkel!
>Not unless it’s incessant and I am late trying to get somewhere.
It’s never happened when I’m in a rush, but once I was “pulled over” by a police car while riding a bicycle. Also, police do check for stolen bicycles frequently, and a lot of foreigners get caught up in these because once a bike is stolen, it gets shuffled from person to person, especially in the gaijin community.
What Bull crap. I do not mind Japan being for the Japanese.
My son has lived in Japan for over 15 years, and has never been stopped and questioned by police.For anything. BUt then he i s perfectly bilingual, reads and writes Japanese, and is married to a Japanese with 3 children. He is a well known language Sensei.
Is there discrimination against other races in Japan? Yes.
There is in every country in the world.
So now this Muslim is taking on the taquiya**technique so they have to listen to his foolish lack of manners and breaches of ettiquette.If Japan was smart it would ban Muslims from entereing Japan, but then the Saudis and the Japanese Royal family are buddies beceause of oil.
Japan will have to address the Muslim incursion, and I hope the court sends this case packing.The Japanese do not deserve demographic warfare.They deserve to be left iin peace and prpsperity, well earned IMHO.
Just read how offensive this is, no wonder he was stopped by police, he is just a belligerant unmannerly character who cannot conduct himself with even a smidgen of wa.
In his own plaintiff’s statement, Syed noted that there will be increasing numbers of foreign-born people in Japan going forward. “To create a more open society, a good society, then I believe discriminatory police questioning must be changed.”
The police need to qestion Muslims as much as possible so they do not begin their social conquest of Japan.If Syed does not like Japan...deport him to his native lands.
Japan is struggling with very low birthrate and is now embarking on a large expansion of immigrant workers. I hope it goes well, but I am worried for Japan that it won’t.
I want Japan to always be Japan and the same goes for mnay other mostly homogeneous countries. The diffferences are good for the world just as very different states in the U.S. are good for the U.S. When cultures die then true diversity dies, and so does many advantages our differences give us.
Legal migrants can be extremely resourceful entrepreneurs if given the opportunity. Pakistanis, for instance, are huge in the Japanese used-car business. It is just unfortunate that the way the Japanese laws are written doesn’t allow foreign nationals to operate their own businesses or work as independent contractors, even though that would benefit the economy as a whole.
When I was working in Japan (90s), locals who no longer wanted their bicycles dropped them at the post office and anybody who wanted one was free to help themselves to an abandoned bike.
Do they still do this?
Blacks and moslems are violent and should be watched in Japan. They literally have 6 year old kids walk to school, take a train, etc. Their high trust society should be maintained.
The worst thing ever imaginable would be for Japan to let large numbers of Pakis into the country.
If race is enough of a defining characteristic to result in “protected classes” then it is enough of a defining characteristic for criminal investigation.
