One time a cop got behind me and rode about 4 inches off my bumper on a city street. I started going downhill, building up speed. I was concerned that if I hit my brakes he would hit me. When I reached 11 miles an hour over the speed limit he pulled me over. I told the officer he was following me too close. He actually said, “So you were speeding because I was behind you?” I shut up at that point. He did not write me a ticket. I don’t know what his motivation was for messing with a 50 something year old white guy in an older model pick up truck. I had done absolutely nothing to get his attention. Now if a cop gets behind me I go exactly 5 miles an hour under the speed limit.

My inclination is the opposite. If someone is 4" off, I assume he is determined to hit me, so I slow down. No brakes, just foot off the gas. (I might tap the brake if rolling downhill).

Yep.

I start at the speed limit and drop 1 mph every 15 seconds.

Generally the power tripping cop can only take it for about a minute.

Started one at 35 and was down to 18 when the cop popped.

I looked at him and smiled as he blew by... right into my dashcam field of view.

All that time he sweated in the gym didn't amount to crap against a little thinking.

.
