My dad was a WW2 Navy aviator who had a tattoo of the Philippine islands on his right forearm. He participated in the liberation of the islands during WW2. I asked him about it when I was a little boy. He said it was the second most stupid thing he ever did, the first was going into the Navy at 16 years old.
I did not like my time in the Navy. However when I needed heart surgery the VA took care of me . Probably added more years than I had spent.

And yet, that is the only appropriate example of a tattoo, and the only one man enough to admit he regretted it
