Bepop, which I love, but chicks generally don't, killed it. Fusion, which I love, and chicks sometimes do when I introduce them to it, often do.

But chicks mostly like schmaltzy songs, which is why they often will like pre-bop jazz featuring Frank or Dino, but not Parker or Powell. Nor do they like prog, which I also like, but which frequently involves a lot of deedly weedley weedley look at how many notes I'm playing per second.

Short story long, men will listen to whatever chicks are listening to because we want the poon.

If you find a chick who likes Bach and Monk, marry her.

Heh. My dad told me in the sixties rock (Elvis and the Beatles) were king but if you wanted time with a woman, and to set the mood, you played Sinatra.
The modern equivalent “ if the girls like Shakira, you like Shakira.”

If you find a girl who can wrap her head around “Lark’s Tongues in Aspic, Part II” marry her (if she’s reasonably attractive).

I like all types of jazz, including Avant Garde, except Fusion. I’ve just never appreciated it. I don’t want any rock in my jazz. It can work the other way, jazz in rock.

Chet Baker, should have been one of the biggest music stars of the 20th century. He had it all, the looks, the voice, and the playing, and he virtually threw it all away on the drugs.
