I like all types of jazz, including Avant Garde, except Fusion. I’ve just never appreciated it. I don’t want any rock in my jazz. It can work the other way, jazz in rock.
I can listen to Jean Lucy Ponty (who worked with Zappa, Chick Coreia, and Al Di Meiola, and more recently Regina Carter) all day.
The early Pat Metheny Group (ECM-era), was the perfect mix of Jazz and Rock. Pat and Lyle were magic together.
