Well, there’s Trump or there’s Satan - you pick.

Looking back now, in some ways, I was clearly wrong about Trump. He kept his word on many essential promises, he kept his door open to evangelical leaders, and he stood up for many issues of importance to us. He did not simply use us to get elected and then discard us, as I feared he would.

But in no way should you look to him to lead the way in bringing about the moral or cultural transformation of our nation, let alone the spiritual transformation.

Exactly. That is not Trumps job. That is our job.

True Christians don’t pick their battles strategically. They find the most contentious hill to die on and lose everything else they held dear in the process.

John 8:7 -—

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. KJV

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” NIV

They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” NLT

No matter the “language” -— that about sums it up right there . . .

I understand this guy and agree to a certain extent. There are too many Chrisitians that think “if we just elect the right guys things will be ok.”. They won’t. This is Satan’s world. The world we look for wont happen until Christ returns.

On reflection, the most amazing thing to me is that Christians expect a magic bullet to fix everything. They expect Trump to be a Messiah. I sure don’t.

It is going to take a generation to change things. We change the culture one on one with a short sword.

All you “Stop worshiping Trump as a Christian Leader” people need to get over it. I nor any Christian I know says this or looks to Trump as a savior of Christianity. I am not looking to a President for spiritual guidance, I’m looking to a President for leadership and someone who will stand up and defend this country and Constitution. Simply put, Trump is my President, Jesus is my savior. How hard is that to understand?!

A true Christian pays off a dead NYC cops mortgage and never says a word about it. Then there’s Biden.

trump has CHOSEN to step up and fight for America and is a friend to Christians. He could have had the peaceful life of a billionaire and enjoyed a yacht and endless golf.
But he stays in the fight and even facing prison, fights harder.

I like him.

The timing of this article isn’t so great. Biden is an existential threat to everyone, not just Christians. But he is pretty openly hostile to Christians and conservatives. And it isn’t just rhetoric. He’s weaponized the legal system against us. If there was anyone better to stop him than Trump, that person should have been vetted long ago and secured the Republican nomination.

But, after reading the article, I have to agree that the issue of (so-called) homosexual marriage is a big problem.

When Obama first ran in 2008, he publicly stood against homosexual marriage. In 2016, he did not support homosexual marriage but did say his “position is evolving”.

Now we have the presumptive Republican nominee hosting homosexual weddings at his home.

Honestly, if we had any better choice this would be a deal-killer for me. LGBT is destroying civilization. It must be opposed. Otherwise, our nation will find itself on the wrong side of God when He decides He’s had enough. We’ve had His blessings for many years. But we are already experiencing His divine judgment now. It will get worse before it gets better.

Christians might want to start pushing back against the communist social revolution taking over the country, before it’s too late. Trump is merely a stop-gap to try and slow down the totalitarian slide, if we’re not already so far gone that the system even “allows” him to win. I see two choices in front of us: freedom or tyranny, and I think we all know the direction we’re going.

Rom the article: “But in no way should you look to him to lead the way in bringing about the moral or cultural transformation of our nation, let alone the spiritual transformation. He may point to the Bible as his favorite book, but it remains clear by his actions and words that the contents of that Book are not yet written deeply on his heart, nor does he have an intimate personal relationship with the divine Author.

More importantly, we must learn the painful lessons from the last 8 years during which time many of us became better known as supporters of Trump, if not apologists for Trump, than as followers of Jesus. In doing so, we deeply damaged our witness and drove many Americans, especially young Americans, away from Jesus.”
____________________________________________________________

We do not look to government to save us from our sins, to be our provider, to be our healer, to be our confidence in hard times, to determine what is sin and what is not. That’s what the liberals do. The government is not God. The government is simply God’s provision to execute earthly justice and keep the peace on this earth. It is God’s left-hand kingdom. It wields the sword. That is the job Trump is seeking. Contrary to Chris Matthews’ lies, Trump has never claimed to be God.

God’s right-hand Kingdom is the Church, through which God Himself saves sinners. He does this through Law and Gospel. Without the Law, a person doesn’t know that they deserve judgment. Without justice they don’t realize that there really IS a price for wrong-doing. Without understanding God’s justice there is no way to realize the sanctity of human life, or why it is so disgusting when we sin against God and others. Until a person repents, they cannot be brought to saving faith.

With the kids I say it this way: Sin is like a poopy diaper. It stinks, it hurts, and if left untended it will kill. We all sin just as surely as we poop. God can’t let people with stinky diapers into His Heaven. If He did, Heaven would stink just as bad as earth does. The only way into Heaven is to get rid of the poopy diaper. We can’t change ourselves. But God took all our poopy diapers and placed them on Jesus, who on the cross carried them to Hell and left them there to rot forever.

On the cross, Jesus took all the spankings that God has to give because He cares so much about all the wrongs done, because He loves us all so deeply. He can’t just let any wrong go unpunished because the person harmed by that wrong is so precious to Him. He has to punish it. That is His justice, which is one side of His love. How could He say He loves us if He didn’t care what was done to us? The other side of God’s love is His mercy; He does not delight in the death of the wicked (that’s all of us). He wants to pay the price for our sin and clean us up for His Heaven. And He did that all when He laid our sin on Jesus and had Jesus pay the price for our sin and leave that sin rotting in Hell, just like the Yom Kippur lamb carried Israel’s sin into the desert, away from the people, and died there

That is who God is and what He does. And every person will be saved through that act of God. Unless they refuse to let Him have their dirty diaper. If they like the poop and like walking around in their dirty diaper, don’t think anything’s wrong, and lash out at God whenever He gets close enough to address the stink... He won’t force them to be saved. They can reject Him.

In this world there are people who are broken by their sin. They need to hear the Gospel, the truth that Jesus paid for their sin and has ultimately removed its power and eventually, in Heaven, will finally end its stench as well.

In this world there are also people who like the stench of lies, murder, and stealing, which are the trademarks of the devil, the Father of Lies, the Lawless One. They can like it on the left-hand kingdom level of CRIME or on the right-hand Kingdom level of sin.

Those who steal, kill, or slander their neighbor are guilty of crimes. Those who covet, hate, or do not actively defend and seek the good reputation of their neighbor are guilty of sin.

What people need to see of us in the left-hand kingdom is that we stand for the law to protect all innocent people and to secure justice against those who are guilty of crimes. A Christian who knows that crimes have been committed against Donald Trump cannot be silent about it without committing false witness against him by omission. It’s not criminal if we don’t defend the truth, but it is sin.

The people who are committing crimes against Trump (or against anybody) must be brought to justice if the left-hand kingdom is to ever seriously consider the need for the forgiveness offered through the right-hand Kingdom.

And within the right-hand Kingdom, how could we say we love anybody if we don’t care when they are violated - either criminally or spiritually? The truth has to be tantamount. Going along with deceptions compromises our witness about Law and Gospel.

If people will reject our witness about Jesus because they love the poop of crime and sin against Trump, then maybe the problem for them is that we are NOT compromising our witness.

Of course, we need to be careful that our hearts are right in the way we confront the crime/sin. It must be love that compels us, and it must be the love as described in 1 Cor 13. It must involve speaking the truth in love. It must never give up. I don’t know about you, but that kind of love is tough for me. It’s way too easy for me to seek vindication rather than healing. Too easy for me to give up on people and walk away or ignore them rather than try to winsomely engage them. There is still the scent of sin even within my best efforts, until Heaven. And that scent of sin may help to turn people away. For that we all need to repent.

But no matter how we get tangled in sin again and again, we need to still live as though Law and Gospel are the world to us, and that means standing against both crime and sin - even when “seekers” don’t want us to. We need to do it with love but we need to do it.

That’s why, with hope but some trepidation, I voted for him in 2016 and then, with more confidence and less trepidation, in 2020, especially in light of the other presidential choices.

Me, too. And I will vote for him again. OTOH, Dr. Brown is right about Trump and LGBT issues. "Put not your trust in princes." (Psalm 146:3)
