ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The HGTV 2024 Dream Home on Anastasia Island has been a controversial issue in St. Augustine because a seawall was built without the city’s approval, without permits.
Coastal Getaway’s home is part of a contest where people enter for a chance to win the three-bedroom, four bath, $2 million, 3,300 square foot home on Pelican Reef Drive. The winner gets the home fully furnished, a new Mercedes-Benz and $100,000 cash.
The contest ended February 15, but a winner has not been announced due to the unpermitted work done on the house. The house was built with a rocky bulkhead and was too close to a creek and salt marsh.
On Tuesday, the St. Augustine Planning and Zoning Board approved the home since the builder made modifications to the property to address stormwater runoff into the marsh. Board members expressed concern about approving the bulkhead after the fact, and what kind of precedent that might set for future development.
But, the board voted 5-1 to approve it. No word yet on when a winner will be announced.
I would actually take the home. Live there for a few years then sell it.......................
Here we have the pine trees with the huge cones.
Had two windshields busted by squirrels dropping them on our cars.
Couldn’t cut down the trees as we were renters at that time.
BB Air gun was second best solution....................
A hell of a loss it’s how the scams work then they can sell it.
Three card Monte winks
Wait'll they get their tax bill. By then, even the $100K...that should have gone to pay taxes...will have been spent on water toys. In a couple years, this home will be on the market to satisfy the IRS lien on the it.
Swamp Life.
Yeah I’ve seen pines get hit a couple of times.....once a little too close. 😏
A pine tree will literally explode when the sap ignites................
Too late for a ‘surgeon’, it needs a skidder.............
“Beautiful home but all I can think of is bugs, bugs and more bugs/”
well, it IS in Florida ...
I use to live in Lani Kai Oahu. The most exclusive place on Oahu. If one wanted to do any upgrades they had to “upgrade” the sea wall which would cost a billion dollars. So there were all kinds of schemes and tricks used but still had to keep certain walls upright on the old house. It was so stupid and convoluted.
BUT.... Obama didn’t have any problems getting permits (if they were even required) when he got his place. Not a worry in the world when the Kenyan bastard wanted what he wanted. I suspect being a very liberal LGTBTQWTF loving network which worshipped the Obama Lightworker has something to do with permitless construction by the LGBT, I mean HGTv, network.
It must be a poor “person of color” house because we all know they are hardest hit by rapidly rising oceans due to climate change.
As I understand it Hawaii is abashed liberal a state as there is......I also heard it’s a two class state.....either you are rich enough to live there comfortably or your dirt ass poor.
NICE house—wrong place for me.
Racism is fully embraced there as well.
However.. Even the richest on Hawaii are not immune from the bureaucrats. Obama was the only person I know who could develop the property he bought with zero government interference. Of course he is “ a kind of a god Lightworker” with perfectly creased pants.
But what it really is Obama sent a huge amount of money with his “shovel ready” trillions in pork.
“wrong place for me”
90+ degrees and 98% humidity 7 or 8 months out of the year....
What’s wrong with that? 😁
