Knockout Game assailants would approach from behind and from the side so as to prevent the victim from seeing them.
They also tended to attack only men IIRC.
By contrast, some of the current assailants are approaching from in front of the victim, such that the victim sees them coming.
The current assailants also appear to be attacking only women.
