The Transport Secretary has lifted a ban on overweight fisherman working at sea after outcry from the fishing industry.
Mark Harper has ended rules which mean that all crew members of fishing boats have to get a certificate of health before they head to the waters.

“This means that an average man of 5ft 10in who weighs more than 17st 6lbs or a 6ft man of around 19st would not be allowed on fishing boats.”
So a 5’10” man weighing more than 244 pounds or a 6’ tall man more than 266 pounds would be unable to fish commercially. This would keep tons of very health athletic people from fishing.
You’re fat, so you legally can’t be active, according to the government.
BMI alone is a poor indicator of health. A 5’10 man who works out can easily weigh 250+. It’s not a one size fits all world.
Certainly, there is faggotry afoot.
Be ready, the menace is close to all in the UK.
This is in UK.
That stupid BMI crap
Why would the cost of a medical assessment mandated by government in a country with Socialized Medicine cost the worker anything?
What the .........!
The left scream about “fat shaming” all the time and then pull this crap? Talk about blatant hypocrisy!
Should take this guy out to sea and use him as chum.
UK is very very top heavy with bureaucrats. They arouse themselves every once in a while. To come up with something dumb.
Same thing here with useless eaters in the Federal bureaucracy come up with nonsense such as banning gas stoves. They retreated on this. They will over regulate them to make a new one super-expensive.
Forcing EVs on the public is another one. This is Federal A-holes trying to look busy. When reality is they are useless and over paid.
Its a BOAT, not an airplane.
Yes. I was surprised in the OHSA link AIRCRAFT PILOTS AND FLIGHT ENGINEERS was the fifth most dangerous occupations. Because of private planes and helicopters, not commercial.
“They keep tightening the screws. The bureaucrats, that is. They just can’t help it.”
Per this article a bureaucrat loosened a screw!
Loosened it under duress, I’ll bet. Put him on Page One. Expose the bustard, I say.
5’10” at 240 lbs is likely not obese, except on the BMI chart. If you saw him on the street you likely wouln’t think him “fat”. Sure he could likely lose a few pounds but it’s not outrageously overweight. It’s more like a guy with a bit of a beer belly body type. The BMI calculator is unrealistic and doesn’t factor muscle mass or bone density. The BMI seems like it was designed for Kenyan marathon runners.
But even if he a was 5’5” and 300 pounds it doesn’t justify government denying him a livelihood. If they say he is unfit I sure hope they pay him workers compensation. Or he sues for disability. Assuming they have those in the UK.
The way the laws are written, in order to prove your compliance with health guidelines the individual is responsible for the cost of the assessments and examinations.
EG: if you want to keep your driver’s license after age 80, you have to pay for the mental and physical examination. Just like a pilot or trucker has to pay for their annual checkup.
Neither do we.
😒True........
“The Department for Transport initially said the decision was made to stop fishermen risking their own lives at work.”
“There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.”
