Lesson learned: he got 50 years for ripping off regular people who all get nothing back because he illegally gave the money to politicians. He got zero years for the illegal political donations, the politicians got zero years, and the DOJ said it was in the interest of the nation to not look into it.
Clearly if you want to steal, the best way to do it is be a politician.
