We can “see” the lightwaves from past events in the universe, but we can never touch them - those events do not even exist at the time we notice they happened. Food for thought.
Many people don’t realize that what they are seeing now is the way it was eons ago. If you could instantly jump to an area of the universe it might look a whole lot different today. It could all be dark empty space now and we would not know it.
