Potential deployment of French troops to Ukraine may be of benefit to Russia — Medvedev
Tass ^ | 3/20/24 | Dmitry Medvedev

MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Eliminating French military personnel that may appear in Ukraine would be a critical but not particularly difficult mission for the Russian Armed Forces, but for Paris such a humiliating defeat of its legions would be tantamount to being guillotined, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.

"Actually, for the success of our cause, it would be nice if the restless French dispatched a couple of regiments to ‘Banderaland.’ It would be very problematic to hide such a number of servicemen, so systematically eliminating them would not be the most difficult task, but surely the most important one. But, just think of the beneficial knock-on effect!" he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Although delivered by Putin’s yapping junkyard dog, I believe this reflects Russia’s official position if Macron is that stupid.

Their new uniform issue lace undies are designed for easy removal and use as either bibs or surrender flags, unbunching not a part of their design.

IDK if France is doing this or not, but if they are, I would not be so sure that their troops would take a licking. The Russians have been relentless but not very efficient and force protection seems to be an alien concept to them. I could easily see a force of France’s best troops making a lot of mincemeat against the Russian conscripts.

He’s got a point: what more does Russia have invested fighting French troops in this conflict vs what more does France have invested by becoming an open combatant?

(and since it’s such a divisive thing here on FR and everyone loves to accuse others of shilling for one side or the other, I’ll state my view: both the Russian and Ukrainian governments can go to hell. )

It's Ukraine. The French troops wouldn't be that motivated to fight in a war that they had nothing to do with in the first place.

The elite French troops that were quartered in the Kharkov hotel were unable to be reached for comment.

You can joke about the French army being “cheese eating surrender monkeys” but that trope isnt entirely accurate. And let’s not forget that when the Americans faced the axis for the first time, they got run out of the Phillipines. Unfortunately for France, they were too close to Germany and din’t have enough strategic depth to recover and adapt to Germany’s rapid Blitzkrieg.

In any case, it’s not particularly to the present day. French troops are extremely professional and battle hardened from their extensive combat operations in Africa. I wouldn’t want to be a hapless Russian Mobik facing extremely well trained professional French soldiers, or professional soldiers from any NATO country because man for man they are superior to the dross that the Russians send over in meatwave attacks against Ukrainian positions.

In general, when French troops have met their Russian counterparts in open battle, the French tricolor has prevailed. Napoleon’s invasion of Russia failed because the French lacked the supplies to continue fighting. Given that the EU’s economy is 10x Russia’s, and the French economy alone is 2x Russia’s, and its war aim is only to defend Ukraine rather than push into Russia, a French force would lack for nothing.

The French also helped our forces to win against the British, and also provided cover as much as they could against the Germans during the retreat from Dunkirk. I know the French have been brave warriors in the past. That was then, this is now. Neither France, Great Britain, or this country have the military they had in WWII, and none of those countries would be able to fight a prolonged war against China like we did against the Axis in WWII.

Their best troops - the Foreign Legion - got creamed by the Vietnamese, even when bolstered by seasoned SS troopers. They then lost to the French in Algeria, then the regulars lost to the Algerians.

In World War II, the French lost to the Thais, the US, and the French. They lost to the Germans 3 wars in a row. More recently they surrendered to India without a fight. They lost to the Egyptians.

I’m sure I’m missing a few.

As of now China still has an inferior military to the US and the west, and their military has zero combat experience. If there is one good thing about the Ukrainian war, it is that it has woken up the West to the need to get its crap together and start re-arming and looking towards reversing the decline in its industrial base.

They didn't have to go to that expense. All they had to do was issue cloth baby diapers. Undies, bib and flag all in one.
