He was throwing pizza into a park area to feed the pigeons and squirrels. But, from what I understand, he was technically arrested for littering. And he also brought pizza to feed the homeless.

———-

Back in the 70’s I lived in Santa Cruz. On a lovely day some friends and I were taking a drive somewhere, which is irrelevant to the story.

I had finished eating an apple and was looking for a place to stash the core when one friend suggested I throw it out the window. I recall saying that I was not a litterbug, but conceded when it was pointed out that an apple core was a natural product and the birds would probably appreciate it. So we slowed the car down and I tossed it out.

I didn't see the motorcycle policeman right behind us.

Throwing that apple core out the window cost my teenage self $50.00 for littering.

I can well imagine going to jail for it in today's world.

How sad.

I honestly do not know the story about this man and his “feeding” the pigeons, but I have to ask how stupid he is, given the horrendous rat problem in NYC, to throw pizza.
