If a person can’t do third grade math, they shouldn’t be admitted to college. Or high school, for that matter.

The parents have **no** control over which students are promoted to the next grade.

This is **completely** in the control of government functionaries.

For that matter, if they can’t do third grade math, they shouldn’t be elected to a government office. If all they count is what lines their back pocket, those envioroweenies can make up any crisis and get our tax money flowing into their grant coffers. A $27.9 Trillion budget deficit? “Duh! What the hell is that? Raise taxes on the rich!”

“Seniors in college can’t do 3rd grade math from 100 years ago.”

That’s true. At the family homestead, Hubby found some text books my aunt used when she taught elementary school in the 1920s, in one-room schoolhouse. He’s a physicist, and could not believe the level of difficulty those kids dealt with. It was stuff he recalled from high school and college.

At Biden's SOTU address, he says we need 3rd grade tutors to get kids up to reading and math levels, while simultaneously giving the teachers who left them below grade level a raise?

“At least no more than twice as many as whole numbers.”

Does that make sense? I don’t get it.

...their idea that everybody should have the same opportunity in all areas instead of where their talents are.

Nothing at all wrong with equal opportunity but stupid Marxist liberals have the outlandish notion that everyone should have the same exact outcome as everyone else. Really stupid to think that could ever even be possible.

Why does this person HATE PARENTS who send their kids to Public School. After all, they’re saving money, and isn’t that what responsible Americans do?

Doesn’t matter. Parents do have control over knowing whether their kids can do arithmatic and can read. All they have to do is pay attention to what their kids are learning.

I found that the school wasn’t teaching reading (whole word fiasco). I taught reading over the summer using a home school phonics method. My kid went from reading impaired to advanced in a couple of years no thanks to the school.

I’m one of the few Freepers who still tries to combat the garbage in the public school system. I am a reading/ELA teacher and a good one.
I just spent the last two months as an intensive reading teacher in a local middle school.
Part of the student body was the ultra rich.
The other half was the ultra poor in the ‘hood.
Guess which culture ran that stupid school, and guess which culture slavishly licked their boots?
I was physically attacked in my classroom, and my students met me with visceral hatred. NOT ONE OF THEM could read above a second grade level, and some of my idiots were 15 years old...
I originally took this job because I had experience that I thought uniquely qualified me to do it. Previously, I had worked with gang members and aby crminals in other schools who eventually turned their lives around and at one point in my time with them, ended up calling me “Mom.”
But that was over 5 years ago... the new generation of hood rat is an entirely new beast. These entitled feral pieces of shite steadfastly held to their ‘hood entitlement, and were laughable in their utter hatred of white culture.

Even worse, their satin’ bonnet wearing, flat footed Mamas threatened to kick my skinny white A$$ daily for having the audacity to not give their kids As just for existing.
I am now working across town in predominantly affluent neighborhood... I’m also working in Special Ed... and honestly, my kids with Downs Syndrome ARE SMARTER than the ferals in the ‘hood school.
This experience has really shaken me to my core.
They HATE us. They want us dead.

Not to disagree, but what percentage of parents do you think could successfully homeschool?

I expect that you need two parents who can live off the income from a single working parent. Do you think that is correct?

I just read the AP article. I don’t believe the story!

How can you possibly ace the AP physics exam and not know how to do algebra? Precalculus physics which is the usual high school physics is all algebra! I found the orientation of the photo accompanying the article interesting. Oriented in a way so you couldn’t possibly see the equation on the whiteboard.

Well, duh. But, you see, if NONE of them had the same answer, then you at least know they did not cheat off of each other.

Cheating occurs more often in high school math and science tests than the correct answer does.
