ASHTABULA — Two women face charges after a bizarre incident that unfolded when a dead man was dropped off at the Ashtabula County Medical Center emergency room on Monday.
Karen Casbohm and Loreen Bea Feralo have been charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft after dropping off the body of Douglas Layman, 80, at ACMC and leaving, according to Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell and Ashtabula Prosecuting Attorney Cecilia Cooper.
Before arriving at the hospital, the women allegedly first put Layman’s body in the passenger seat of their vehicle, drove to a bank and tried to withdraw money from his account, Stell said.
Later, the women dropped Layman’s body off at ACMC and simply left.
“Before dropping him off they went through a bank drive-thru with him propped up in the passenger seat so that the teller could see him. ... They tried to withdraw money from his account,” Stell said. “The bank had allowed this previously as long as they were accompanied by him.”
Medical personnel had no idea who the dead man was when the women dropped off Layman at the ER, but police eventually located Casbohm and Feralo, who identified him and said the man had died at his Ashtabula home, according to police.
“We filed charges against two women,” Cooper said. “Karen Casbohm and Loreen Bea Feralo were charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft.”

Yeah, it kinda bugs me when posters go to the effort to put up a story, from a not commonly spoke of place, but don’t bother to simply type in the state or country.
I’ve trucked a lot between the Appalachians and the Rockies (beyond each, but not very often), so many towns and cities are in my memory bank.
Cleveland News stations covered the story. One interviewed a bank employee, the women successfully withdrew $900.
The old man lived with the women for company, and refused his stepson’s offer to help evict them. He didn’t want to be living alone at 81.

I had a lifetime friend lived in Hampshire County, WV who drove truck, and at one time he had three of them on the road. He was a scrappy dude of short stature, and had to make seating and other adjustments so he could handle those big rigs. I used to ride shotgun with him on runs from Winchester, VA over the Bay Bridge to destinations on the Eastern Shore.
Kudos to Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell and Ashtabula Prosecuting Attorney Cecilia Cooper! If they can file charges against these two women for propping up a dead body to rob a bank, how come no one in the military or federal justice system come forward and arrest Pelosi and Harris for propping up a dead body to rob the American people?
