My brother worked at a Deli on the Upper East Side (of Manhattan, natch) that sold Hellman's Mayonnaise in paper cups with paper lids as their own house brand. There is a high end food store near me that sells cookies purportedly made by a bakery on Lawn Guyland for about twice what better cookies cost at Market Basket.

That is 10 times the price at Wally World or 3.5 times the price at Duncan Donuts. Heck, just make some for pennies and everyone gets to decorate them as they wish and they know if they’re gluten free or what not.

I have only met one person who was truly allergic to gluten with sever celiac disease.

I remember years ago, when this non-gluten fad started, reading a medical journal that stated a small percentage (less than 1%) of Americans had allergies or some adverse reaction to gluten.

I watch people, including supposedly brilliant people, falling for these fads all the time. I wonder if it is some inner need to have some type of victimhood/attention getting device?

I consider it attention seeking if the person goes on and on and on about how gluten affects them...

Then there's the issue of how our food is poisoned. More people may develop allergies for something.

One thing that boggles me is peanut butter allergies. It was so unheard of back in the old school days.

One reason. Medical science.

Today so many people with allergies may now live normal lives when only a few decades ago they would die from the allergic reactions. Now they live and pass on the genetic traits so there are so many more people alive that have severe allergies.

Back when we were children those people would have died and thus they would not pass on those genetic traits to increase in the population.
