You use a solid mirror. Good luck launching a 6.5m mirror ... For comparison, HST has a 2.4m mirror.
If the Laws of Physics trouble you, you can always try to get them repealed. IIRC, one of Obama's lackeys actually suggested that in a meeting.
The spikes are an artifact from Webb’s optical system. It has to do with how the optics were designed..Smaller, amateur reflecting telescopes have them, too.
I believe that they can be removed through photo editing, however.
Someone who know more about astrophoto editing can correct me if I’m wrong.
Actually, I think they look kinda cool.
