While I was away, my kids had to help my best dog in the world off into the dog heaven in the sky. She was a Lab/Mutt rescue, about 15-16 years old.
We will have a Celebration of her Life with the grandkids, complete with a doggy cake, interpretive dances, hand-drawn pictures of her with the relatives and other dogs gone before, and then let them wreck the house as usual.
Life goes on.
On a happier note;

Oh, bitt, I’m so sorry about your beloved dog. I love the idea of the grandkids coming over to celebrate her life and wreck the house! I still miss my own best dog in the world, Nala, every day, but I got a rescue recently. She was reported to be a 7 year-old lap dog Yorkie/Maltese mix who lived with an elderly woman who couldn’t care for her any more. She was very quiet and timid the first week I had her but there’s always a lot of noise and energy in my house. Between that, a grooming to significantly shorten her hair, and the frequent walks, her personality has changed. She’s now almost as boisterous as Nala was and greets everyone enthusiastically like they’re her long-lost owner. She runs happily all over the house and literally smiles at me all the time, which is hilarious because she has cross-piled teeth and looks very goofy. She makes me laugh and helps me forget how much I miss Nala. Her previous owner called her Chelsea but I call her CeeCee. She answers to the mere sound of my voice so I don’t think what I call her matters. You never know if there’s another dog out there waiting for you too to rescue each other.
It’s always a sad day when a pet goes. But they wait for us in Heaven. We had to put down our old and suffering Lab rescue who had stopped eating. He was just the best dog. Our country vet was gracious enough to come to our home to ease him on his way. This vet sat right on the floor by the dog bed, and stayed until the end. We were so glad we didn’t have to take our dog to the clinic, it would have distressed him even in his state.
You sounds like the kind of grandma and pet owner that every child or pet should have. Sorry for your loss, but I imagine your dog had a wonderful spoiled life.
