The Ukrainian air force claimed it has shot down 10 Russian warplanes in 10 days: nine of the Russian air force’s best Sukhoi Su-34 and Sukhoi Su-35 fighter-bombers and also a rare Beriev A-50 radar plane.

The Ukrainian defense ministry announced this month’s ninth and tenth shoot-downs—both involving Su-34s—on Tuesday. “Oops, we did it again!” the ministry quipped. “And now it's 10 destroyed Russian planes in 10 days!”
How the Ukrainians are shooting down so many jets is unclear. It’s possible the Ukrainian air force has assigned some of its American-made Patriot missile launchers to mobile air-defense groups that move quickly in close proximity to the 600-mile front line of Russia’s two-year wider war on Ukraine, ambushing Russian jets with 90-mile-range PAC-2 missiles then swiftly relocating to avoid counterattack.
But the distance at which the Ukrainians shot down that A-50 on Friday—120 miles or so—hints that a longer-range missile system was involved. Perhaps a Cold War-vintage S-200 that the Ukrainian air force pulled out of long-term storage.
It also is apparent the Ukrainians have moved some of their two-dozen or so 25-mile-range NASAMS surface-to-air missile batteries closer to the front line.

The lesson here is that the balance of weapons has turned to advantage for air defence.
No good news for militaries that require air superiority as part of their victory plan.

Given how much the Ukrainians have lied, and continue to lie, and our MSM and government help them lie, there's no reason to believe the Ukraine's claims. They cried wolf too many times.
If their claims are true, it does not remove the importance of air superiority. Air Defenses are taken out by aircraft and ground troops all the time. This 'story,' or today's propaganda piece, does not signal a turn of events. The media is going to fan these claims to try to portray it as worthy of billions of United States tax dollars. The Ukraine is dying and will continue to die until Zelensky flees to his mansion and the MSM distract everyone with a false flag. Why should the United States pay for the Ukraine's funeral?

Well don’t blame me for the Ukrainians’ lack of ambition in their claims.
The balance of weapons is for this war, not war in general, as this is the RuAF we are talking about, not the US and NATO, as their equipment and doctrine are very different and have not made an appearance in this war at all.
And its not really a change in “balance”, as the RuAF has never in this war been able to challenge the Ukrainian SAM umbrella with manned aircraft. Its spent most of that time nibbling at the edges of the front line at low altitude.
What the Russians have been doing lately is dropping standoff glide bombs, necessarily at high altitude, from what they hoped was beyond the range of that SAM umbrella. They have been disabused of this notion, and henceforth any glide bomb operations will have to be conducted from even further back. The Russians will probably have to modify their munitions in order to find such a safe zone.

weapons.

If they have been using Patriot missiles for this then of course they need US weapons. The Patriot is a US weapon, designed specifically, mind you, to shoot down Russian aircraft. There are still quite a few Russian aircraft to shoot down, so they need more missiles.
A friend & mentor was shot down as well. Spent 2 years in Hanoi and he despised Jane Fonda until the day he died.
No. The lesson is really for the USA/NATO. Which depends on air superiority as their battle strategy.
If Russian air defence is even better than Ukraine (yes it is), then NATO will have to get on the ground with these guys, and it won’t go any better than the Counter-Offensive.
