Yep. Private pilots had the circular one, the “E6B”(?) for flight planning, along with our logbook and Sectional Charts.

What amazed me about the article was he was making $125,000 a year fixing and reselling slide rules back in the early 2000’s. I saw a story about Google Adsense prior to 2010 and a retired guy was making more money retired from it then when he was working. His site was about electric motors.
