Vladimir Putin and the Monroe Doctrine
WND ^ | February 19, 2024 | Scott Lively

Posted on 02/19/2024 6:23:00 PM PST by Jan_Sobieski

As we approach the second anniversary of the NATO-provoked Russian military invasion of Ukraine, and the world is finally getting to hear Russia's side of the story thanks to the courageous journalist Tucker Carlson, I would like to republish my article of March 23, 2022, that might have saved us all from two years of war propaganda and social manipulation had it gotten that kind of exposure and had conservatives adopted its quintessentially American talking points.

Why? First, because it summarizes the history and reasoning of our own Monroe Doctrine as the most logical basis for comparing Russia's demands, and second, because it links to Vladimir Putin's "Empire of Lies" speech on the night of the invasion – explaining in his own words why Russia had no choice but to take military action in Ukraine, citing specific, systematic and factually verifiable U.S. and NATO provocations.

In 1823, when the emperor of Tzarist Russia invited the United States to negotiate a resolution of contested coastal lands along the northwest of the North American continent, President James Monroe responded with a proclamation in an address to Congress that would forever-after be called the Monroe Doctrine. In his own words, he said that when "the rights and interests of the United States are involved … the American continents … are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers.

We owe it, therefore, to candor and to the amicable relations existing between the United States and those powers to declare that we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous to our peace and safety..."

“Does anyone else remember that before the Soviet Union put missiles in Cuba the U.S. put missiles in Turkey and that part of the solution to the “Cuban Missile Crisis” was the removal of our missiles from Turkey?”

I suspect a lot of similarities to Ukraine. In that case, we put the missiles in Turkey, and when the Soviets called, we probably told them to f-off, it’s none of their business (just as we did with Ukraine joining NATO).

The Soviets then thought: “Well, if they won’t pick up the phone and talk like ADULTS to us, we’ll have to use other means to get their attention...”

The people who followed JFK got the message and for 30-plus years, we had ADULTS who thought it was a good idea to TALK with a country that could blow us off the map.

...and now we have the Neocons, led by a Hormone-enraged woman and we’re back to the JFK approach. (come to think of it, JFK was rumored to have some rather strong hormonal drives too)

“So you think the U.S. should invade half of Europe to tell them what to do? You really want this much war?”

We invaded half of Europe of Europe in the 1940s, and still haven’t left (but will soon).

Here’s what’s REALLY funny: Secretary Austin said that the purpose of starting the Neocon War in Ukraine was to “weaken Russia”, but instead Russia is now in the process of almost DOUBLING the size of their military and VASTLY increasing weapons production - in short, the Neocons may well have made them a Superpower again, even discounting their nukes.

TOO DAMN FUNNY!!!!

From the article:

It has recently become fairly common knowledge that in 2014, the Barack Obama regime, assisted by George Soros, staged a coup in Ukraine to remove the democratically elected pro-Russian president and replace him with a "puppet monarch" who would further the NATO long-game to fully encircle Russia with nukes.

###

If not for evil Obama (and his puppet monarch Biden), Ukraine and Russia would be at peace, and the world would not be on the brink of World War III.

And, incredibly, the Republican establishment, neocons and the Zeepers have rallied around Obama's policy.

“And we were right to do so.”

Damn right we were. Other than supporting Globohomo and De-Industrialization of Europe (i.e., ‘Climate Policy’) - two relatively recent developments, I actually don’t have a problem with us being there.

We made mistakes, but we were completly in the right, and the Soviets and China were completly in the wrong. 100 percent. And we were right to oppose them. And now that same battle has come here.

I was saying, strenth first, then diplomacy. Brandon believes inintervening everywhere while being weak at the same time.

Thanks, and I agree with the first sentence - that was Reagan’s doctrine too. Second sentence was Carter’s policy, which didn’t end well for him...

Let’s not be arrogant here. The US provoked the USSR just as much, if not more than the USSR provoked the US during the Cold War. To pretend that the US was just minding its own business and just kept getting ‘bothered’ by those big, bad Russians is revisionist history of the highest order. To put it in simpler terms, it was a giant ‘pissing contest’.

The US was guilt-tripped into believing that WWII started because the US didn’t join The League of Nations and isolationalism emboldened Hitler, therefore the US was no longer going to stand on the sidelines after WWII.
