1977.....
June 7th I saw Led Zeppelin, opening night at Madison Square Garden- still one of the best days of my life...
December 1st I saw Queen the first time they ever played the Garden on a solo bill...
About a month before i saw Queen i was at the Mid Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, seats about 5000, to see Rush- A Farewell to Kings tour.
On the ride up we were discussing the warm up band. Some guy says, “I heard they are some mellow band from Australia.”
Yup- none other than AC/DC, complete with Bon Scott running into the crowd with Angus Young on his shoulders at the end of the show....
Everyone was like, “Holy Sh*t!!! What was that??” It was like someone hit you in the back of the head with an iron skillet!!! By the time Rush got on the stage the crowd was exhausted!!!
The CLOSEST thing I got for that - and it’s no comparison - was I saw shredder Yngwie Malmsteen at a crappy bar in NJ in 1985. The opener was a relatively unknown band from Buffalo called Talas. Their BASSIST blew Yngwie off the stage.
That bassist, Billy Sheehan, went on to play for David Lee Roth in 1986, along with Steve Vai and Gregg Bissonette (I saw that band - they tore it up).
Yngwie went on to open for AC/DC in 1985.
