The majority of the founders of the modern nation of Israel were Socialists. The rest were Communists.
Israel even was Soviet-aligned until Golda Meir, then envoy to the USSR, broached the subject with Stalin about allowing any Soviet Jew who wanted to to “make Aliyah,” to leave Russia and emigrate to Israel.
Stalin’s blunt refusal to even consider her request got Mme. Meir’s dander up, and her pique was the start of the shift of the Israeli government from Soviet alignment to seeking alliance with American.
