Russia will now keep the pressure on. That’s all this is.

If we play the slow bleed game, then they will pressure us.

The longer we keep this war going, and we are keeping it going, the more little bits of Ukraine will get gobbled up by Russia, i.e. the bigger this failure (it already is a political and military failure) will become.

Putin offered to split Ukraine down the Dnieper with Tusk years ago. That tells us where he thinks the boundary between Russia and Poland should be. Putin needs to take many little bits of Eastern Ukraine to reach the Dnieper. So, Ukraine is still ahead of the game. With enough loses the war will become even more unpopular in Russia threatening Putin's regime and could split Russia itself into pieces. That would be a good result for the West. A resounding loss for Russia means a retreat and loss of territory to Georgia, Japan, Finland, Moldova, and Kaliningrad could be split away as well.
