Do I have to go to a poor country to understand that prices and salaries are lower there?
I bet fruits and vegetables are dirt cheap in Cuba, and I know they are in Mexico.
In El Salvador the street markets are full of Central American produce as one would expect. But often the red delicious apples there are from Washington state. Those apples have come from afar and are a bit cheaper than they would be at our Walmart but they are expensive for Salvadorans.
An American Snickers candy bar or a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch were slightly more expensive in El Salvador than here.
