The political mixture in Weimar Germany wasn’t that black and white - Communists vs Nazis. There were Communists divided into Stalin\USSR & Trotsky supporting factions, non-Marxist socialists, social democrat socialists, authoritarian conservatives and monarchists with some overlap between them. All fighting for political space & each other.
How about Norilsk, Chelyabinsk or Vorkuka? Lots of Russians voted with their feet and live in our cities. How Americans in garbage dump Russian cities like that?
