ransomnote: In the following 3 minute video from Boston 25 News, a hard to detect method of stealing information and money from ATM's is described. A 'shimmer' (see image below) the size of a bank card is inserted into the ATM and stays there collecting information from inserted cards. The thieves 'harvest' the data, produce fake cards and use them to withdraw money from victims' accounts.
Super skimmers: The new way criminals are hacking your account, even if you don’t swipe your card
great. now scams have pronouns.
Thanks to you and xtrh.

Thank you for the tip as well.
I almost never use an ATM as it is.
Same here. I never use them.
“even if you don’t swipe your card”
Video say tapping your card prevents shimming
Skimmers suck.
Wouldn’t break my heart if they all had “accidents” while attempting to rip off people.
Yeah, tapping your card can lead to other issues.
If you don't actively close out your account after your transaction after tapping rather than inserting your card, it may keep your account open for additional transactions. With the card inserted, once you finish your transactions and get your card back, your account is closed. But with tapping, and depending on your bank, it may not close when your transaction is complete.

Tapping or taping?...................
But think of the convenience which is lost if we have to go back to personal service. Crooks always find a way to steal from you.
What is “tapping” your card? I have never heard the term.
How will that stop the thieves?
“great. now scams have pronouns.”
Yeah, and it’s the same scum insisting on proper use of those pronouns. “Super scum”.
.
“If you don’t actively close out your account after your transaction after tapping rather than inserting your card, it may keep your account open for additional transactions.”
Thief disables insertion slot then helps you to tap your card ang gets your PIN.
Each transaction requires reentering your PIN. Don’t get distracted by helpful strangers!
Indeed. Just ask the Clintons.
I don't let anyone get within 10 feet of me when I'm using an ATM. If there are others lingering around or waiting, I'll let them go first and wait for them to leave.
And where is the public execution of the A-holes involved in this crap????
